Wine buying on Cape Cod
 

We'll be in Cape Cod next summer, and self catering. We have high standards in wine. We'll be staying in Brewster. can anyone recommend good places to buy good wine, please?

Nice wine store in downtown Chatham.

To avoid disappointment I suggest you consider bringing some with you.

My reccomendations: Epicure liquor store in nearby Chatham and/or Ring Brothers Market in Dennis. You might also enjoy a tour of Truro Vineyards.

That was a bit harsh on Dukey as he also gave good advice. So maybe you wouldn't even consider bringing a single bottle with you but it doesn't seem unreasonable to me.

Yes, she is. It's pretty hard to put a case of wine in the trunk. Sheila posts a lot on the Europe board and has given great advice about Scotland for many years. What a pity she got this treatment from some people over here. Perhaps you might want to stop assuming that everyone here lives in the US. Even for those of us on the West Coast it would be tricky to take your own wine to Cape Cod.

I'll second Luke's in Brewster. There is another place that specializes in fine wines in the Skaket Corner mall in Orleans, just beyond the Brewster town line. Sorry I can't think of the name at the moment...but you can't miss it because it is the only liquor store in the mall.

Oops; a series of misunderstandings _ doncha just lurrrve the Internet? I thought he was having a pop at me because I claimed "high standards" in wine quaffing; and it never OCCURRED to me that he wouldn't realise that carrying wine from overseas was not really an option.

If I had realized you were coming from overseas I wouldn't have suggested bringing wine from home, Sheila.

Good grief. Sheila is okay with things now. Dukey is okay with things now. Why stir things up? It is OBVIOUS that Dukey did not glance at Sheila's email address. Nor did I at first look.

BTW, Sheila, take a drive out to Provincetown during your trip. Don't know the particular stores, but I have found great luck buying wine in Ptown.

Capecodshanty, I posted a while ago looking for some input AND I did a huge search, and collated a bunch of information -not including stuff about wine shops. There's so much posted about Cape Cod that I only went back about a year.

If you'd be good enough to come to email, I could maybe let you have alook at what I've put together and get some input from you? It's nearly all from here or other boards, so I don't want to bore people by re-posting it.

As far as I am concerned, it doesn't matter whether she is coming from Timbuktu or from neighboring Rhode Island! There is nothing wrong with the response to suggest that she may carry her own wine from wherevever she's coming from.

I know a lot of serious oenophiles who do that. I've lugged a few of my cellared bottles on trips to South East Asia as I don't find the wines avaiable in high-end restaurants and stores that I'm directed to to be within my standards.
