I think it depends on where you are in life. For us still traveling with kids, vegas is a nice break from exploring countless canyons and national parks. We've stayed in vegas for one night on several cross-country road trips because it's on our way to or from SoCal. But even without kids i don't think it would be a regular destination.

Not I, It is not my idea of a vacation destination. We drive right by on my way to Utah almost every year! We don't stop.
When we have stopped there, it's only because of family reunion or BIL insisted on seeing a show. Each time, we swore we wouldn't stop there again. Each to his own. Utahtea |
I like Vegas's hotels and restaurants, but it's a fun weekend, not a vacation...
|
message to diann -- you asked when we were there since it rained the whole trip, it was a Labor Day weekend, so early Sept. Not what I would think is rainly season there.

This thread reminds me of something I read about Las Vegas by Merrill Markoe, who I believe is a writer for the David Letterman show. She wrote, that in her experience there are two types of people re: Vegas. The first think that the artificiality and the excess are a real hoot. The others just find it incredibly depressing. She is in the first category, but even so, she says that the maximum length of a Vegas stay should be 3 days. All of us here seem to be divided as she describes!

Ryan, stupid me for not seeing your statement dripping with sarcasm. I know people who really feel that way though.
|
I'm glad that we've decide Ryans' post is sarcastic. I think that DisneyLand/World is the most HATEFUL place on earth. And no,I haven't been to every place on earth.
|
I enjoy the replicas of other places in Vegas. I don't see them as cheesy. Vegas is an adult disneyland!!
|
Well the 2 Lily's (Lilley)agree! Thats exactly how I describe the place too.
|
I love going to Vegas - for 2/3 days of unreality - maybe every couple of years. I could never spend more time that that there.
And for those who go to Vegas or Disney to expeience the culture of other parts of the world - you're not. All you're experiencing in an amusement park. Vegas/Epcot is no more lke the rest of he world than a bumper car ride is like really driving a car. If you just enjoy going to those places fine - but recognize what they are ( fantasyland or cartoonworld) and what they're not (anything even vaguely like reality). |
I have to disagree with the above poster. I think Vegas and Disney have there own unique sense of style. I wouldn't neccesarily call it fantasyland or cartoonworld. Why are they one of the most traveled vacation destinations. People from Europe flock to Vegas and Disney for vacation.
