Whittier and Kenai Fjords - do both???

Given that we have enough time, would you do both the Prince William Sound tour out of Whittier and the Kenai Fjords tour out of Seward?

If you are doing plenty of other touring at least a week, I may consider both, but probably not if I didn't have a few days in between trips.

I did both and loved both. Enjoy your trip.

We took the K.F. trip and loved it. We saw lots of wildlife but no calving glaciers. It is my understanding that you see less wildlife but more calving glaciers out of Whittier. Next time I will do both.

We did the Whittier trip and saw lots of glaciers (26, I believe), some of which were calving. The primary reason we chose the Whittier trip is because the waters of Prince William Sound are much calmer than those on the Kenai Fjords trip, and since I get seasick very easily that trip was a better choice for me. If you have the time, I would do both. Why not?

We were there last month and we did both without regrets. The 26 glaciers tour out of Whittier was nice, and cruising in Prince William Sound was a breeze. I, personally, enjoyed the Kenai Fjords cruise out of Seward better (saw more wildlife and the glacier calving was better), but it is true that the waters are rougher. But if you have time, do both. Enjoy your trip!

I would like to know what percentage of people get seasick on the Kenai cruise?

BudgetQueen Jun 11th, 2003 04:16 AM

I have seen sick passengers on EVERY Kenai fjords trip. Usually the ones at the dock claiming they never get sick. :)

Have you heard what anti-sea sickness medications people have found to be most effective (and not make you drowsy)

I am in the Navy Reserve and on ships a lot, but I never board one without taking Triptone beforehand. I was seasick one time many years ago and I swore it would be the last time. I've taken the Triptone ever since, and never had a problem. Others swear by wrist bands and a dot behind the ear. They might work too. And yes, the Kenai Fjords trip we took two years ago was rough, but no problem at all after taking my Triptone!

bonine- one every 24 hours, better taken at night, gets good reviews. Shorter acting- 4 hour products have more drowsy complaints.
