sf7307: "Open House Chicago" has been held annually in October for the past several years, as far as I am aware. I don't think it's always on the same weekend, however. Look at their website before you make your plans.

By the way, SF & environs is wonderful in the fall, although I can attest that inland can still be fairly warm (or downright hot) in September.

If I were combining a 2nd city with San Francisco, I'd make it Los Angeles (not Seattle, but then I live here).
