Which city? Must visit?

Which city in the US is a MUST VISIT? It can't be in the south and not New York City. Go go gadget arm! Help!

Oh and the trip can occur anytime between September - November 2013.

vjpblovesitaly Jul 8th, 2013 10:15 AM

Where are you coming from? Do you have a preference of East Coast or West Coast? DC or Boston would be good choices in my opinion.

What is go go gadget arm? Must have been a cartoon before or after my time. I am of the Wonder Twin Powers ACTIVATE! generation.

lalala Jul 8th, 2013 10:17 AM

I'll be coming from Orlando fl, I have no east coast west coast preference though. And the cartoon is inspector gadget.

What are your interests? Do you prefer big, busy cities, mountains and nature, or small quaint towns? Is weather a factor?

I'm familiar with both the Wonder Twins AND Inspector Gadget....not sure if that's good or bad.

lalala Jul 8th, 2013 10:30 AM

I'm looking for big busy city. Weather isn't a factor unless you're talking a blizzard then that would be a factor.

sf7307 Jul 8th, 2013 10:38 AM

San Francisco - our best weather is in September and October.

cmcfong Jul 8th, 2013 10:42 AM

Chicago, Boston, San Francisco...any one of them will be great ( and a big change from orlando)

Daniel_Williams Jul 8th, 2013 10:43 AM

Lots of great cities in the USA. I'll narrow it down based on what you asked: not South, not New York City, big & busy. Philadelphia, Chicago, Boston, San Francisco, Washington DC/Baltimore, Seattle.

sf7307 Jul 8th, 2013 10:47 AM

All good suggestions - how long of a trip?

lalala Jul 8th, 2013 10:52 AM

Probably a two week trip.

tenthumbs Jul 8th, 2013 11:12 AM

Agree with Chicago, Boston, SF, DC, and Seattle.

HappyTrvlr Jul 8th, 2013 11:20 AM

Boston, Chicago, , San Francisco, or Seattle would be my picks.

happytrailstoyou Jul 8th, 2013 03:17 PM

My choice would be San Francisco with a day trip to Napa Valley and Sonoma Valley and, time permitting, a drive down Highway 1 through Half Moon Bay, Carmel, and Big Sur at least as far as Santa Barbara.

Two weeks would be sufficient time for both DC and Boston, or even SF and Seattle.

HTTY has an excellent suggestion as well. If you're not interested in wine country, a leisurely road trip down the California coast would be nice.

Thanks for the suggestions guys

Chicago or DC

sf7307 Jul 8th, 2013 05:59 PM

Two weeks is a "healthy" amount of time. I'd consider San Francisco and drive north (Mendocino, Oregon), or east (Lake Tahoe, Yosemite) or south (Monterey, Big Sur, Hearst Castle, all the way to LA and San Diego is easily doable with two weeks) OR DC with a side trip to Virginia/West Virginia/Maryland.

NewbE Jul 8th, 2013 07:15 PM

Stole my thunder! DC or SF, with side trips, those are my votes.

If you should happen to choose Chicago (not a bad option), and are a fan of architecture, "Open House Chicago" is taking place Oct. 19-20 this year. It affords an opportunity for behind-the-scenes access to any or all of 150 significant buildings located all around the city.

NewBe, you're supposed to say "great minds ink alike" :-)

DaveOhio, do they do this every year? We can't come this year, but I'd love to plan to be in Chicago some year during that event.

Dave_Ohio Jul 8th, 2013 09:52 PM

sf7307: "Open House Chicago" has been held annually in October for the past several years, as far as I am aware. I don't think it's always on the same weekend, however. Look at their website before you make your plans.

By the way, SF & environs is wonderful in the fall, although I can attest that inland can still be fairly warm (or downright hot) in September.

travelgourmet Jul 9th, 2013 06:26 AM

San Francisco.

sf7307 Jul 9th, 2013 07:49 AM

Inland of San Francisco is definitely still quite hot in September!

suze Jul 9th, 2013 11:42 AM

San Francisco

If I were combining a 2nd city with San Francisco, I'd make it Los Angeles (not Seattle, but then I live here).
