Where will you be....

on Christmas Day this year? At home or on a vacation somewhere?

fehgeddaboudit Nov 29th, 2004 03:34 PM

Both. At our vacation home.

Scarlett Nov 29th, 2004 03:34 PM

I love the name stellaluna :)

We will be home (Florida), which is also vacation this year~

stellaluna Nov 29th, 2004 03:37 PM

hey Scarlett: Stellaluna was the name of my beloved peach faced lovebird who passed away at a grand old age last year. my son chose the name because of a children's book about a bat of the same name. it really suited our little bird!

J_Correa Nov 29th, 2004 03:50 PM

We will be at home or with family at someone's house - haven't nailed down the plans yet.

Scarlett Nov 29th, 2004 03:51 PM

I remember this book~ Sorry for the loss of your own little Stellaluna ((L))

Santa_Claus Nov 29th, 2004 03:52 PM

Christmas Day...I plan to be sound asleep after returning home from traveling so far overnight...

stellaluna Nov 29th, 2004 04:04 PM

Thanks Scarlett! we do miss her. newest addition is a black Pug puppy named Moose: he thinks he is the King of the household and probably beyond!! what a little character! we will be spending Christmas in Vermont this year and Moose will be traveling with us.

Nina66 Nov 29th, 2004 04:43 PM

We'll be in NYC, having dinner at Babbo. If it snows, this will be the first White Christmas for these two Californians.

Nina

ms_go Nov 29th, 2004 04:47 PM

Laguna Beach. No white Christmas for us again this year. We'll be meeting up there with all of my family.

Nina66 Nov 29th, 2004 04:49 PM

Sorry - dinner at Babbo on Christmas Day would be a little difficult since they will be closed. We'll be there on Christmas Eve. On Christmas Day, we will be walking all over the city, seeing the lights, and others things that you guys have suggested. Plus stopping periodically for some warm liquid refreshment.

LoveItaly Nov 29th, 2004 04:50 PM

Vacaville CA at my DD & SIL house. Even though we only live 10 minutes apart they always want me to arrive around noon Christmas Eve and stay with them until Dec. 26th. So like a vacation without leaving town. It is always a very special time for all of us. Hope everyone has holiday plans that make them happy.

BuffaloGirl Nov 29th, 2004 04:53 PM

Well, you can't have Christmas without snow (can you?), so it looks like I won't need to go anywhere.........

John Nov 29th, 2004 04:53 PM

On the slopes of Big Mountain then home by the fireplace for Christmas dinner.

mikemo Nov 29th, 2004 05:17 PM

At home in Raleigh, with my family visiting! :-)

Jocelyn_P Nov 29th, 2004 05:37 PM

Home sweet home. :) This is the first time we won't be traveling for Christmas in many, many years, and I'm really looking forward to it.

mikemo Nov 29th, 2004 05:43 PM

Home? It's where my SO and I may be -have many and cannot choose as most are leased, lol.

Marilyn Nov 29th, 2004 06:08 PM

Oaxaca, with six good friends, recovering from a significant birthday celebration the night before (not mine).

Tandoori_Girl Nov 29th, 2004 06:48 PM

I think I'll be in Tampa. Which isn't such a bad spot to be. The day after Christmas I leave for some one-on-one with hubby. To somewhere north, maybe. Not so sure yet.

ElendilPickle Nov 29th, 2004 09:38 PM

At home in New Mexico. My oldest dd and our probable future son-in-law will be home from college - whoo hooo!!

karens Nov 30th, 2004 03:21 AM

We'll be at home as usual. As much as I love to travel, it does not appeal in December. I love all the stuff that surrounds Christmas and want to be close to home. Maybe when the kids are grown, a Colorado white Christmas might be the ticket. And John's Montana version sounds nice, too!

But for now, in Decmeber, the only traveling I do is a day trip to Manhattan with my older son. (My younger son's turn is next year).

jonldn Nov 30th, 2004 03:39 AM

I will be with my Mother and Father my elder Sister and her daughter - we will be visiting New York and Boston from UK and CANT WAIT! it is my Sisters first time in USA and I know that she will be bowled over not only by the sights etc but also the Holiday lights etc

Whatever you do this Holiday season - light love and peace to you and yours!

Statia Nov 30th, 2004 03:53 AM

We'll be home in the West Indies. We plan to be cooking all day long in order to enjoy dinner with our friends, under the stars, that night.

AllanNYC Nov 30th, 2004 04:13 AM

Home on Christmas, Shanghai for the New Year Day.

stellaluna Nov 30th, 2004 04:24 AM

Statia, I have always wanted to spend Christmas on some warm tropical island! Trust me, snow and cold are overrated!!

Statia Nov 30th, 2004 04:27 AM

stellaluna, it can be nice to be in the tropics for the holidays, as we've done for many years now. However, we do tend to miss the cold during the holiday season, as well. Guess the "grass is always greener," huh? :)

GoTravel Nov 30th, 2004 05:29 AM

Hopefully at home with Mr.GoTravel, a pile of good movies and a couple of bottles of good red wine!

No telling with our weather. It is supposed to be 80 here tomorrow.

JJ5 Nov 30th, 2004 06:04 AM

I'll be in Chicago proper with about 30 relatives at my mom and dads. They host, I cook and do most everything else. My own Christmas we do the Saturday before- presents etc. with my children and grandchildren at a nice dinner at my house.

This year I will be in Michigan (maybe ice skating) for about 4 days after Christmas, as I have that week off and then will come home to take my oldest granddaughter on her first semi-grown up trip downtown with just the two of us. And then I get to host a friend's party on NY's Eve- about 7 or 8 couples that have been a close group from our original card/ block club for more than 25 years. Libations will be many and some will probably stay. I don't even have time to think about weather. It's all good.

JJ5 Nov 30th, 2004 06:13 AM

Forgot to add, mikemo, that I am jealous about Sicily- I'm trying to get a trip together for the Spring 2006. I've been to Napoli several times and I want to return to my mom's home town in Sicily this time. Watch out for those autos- they don't stop for pedestrians in Napoli.

Believe it or not, my mother has land left to her in Sicily, near Palermo. She has never followed up and probably never will. Buono Natale!

Fodorite018 Nov 30th, 2004 06:14 AM

We will be spending our first Christmas in our new home:) Hopefully we will get out on Christmas day for some snowshoeing though. We usually go to the mountains for the holiday, but dh and the kids outvoted me this year and insisted on being home.

snowrooster Nov 30th, 2004 06:35 AM

Christmas Eve: We go to inlaws
Christmas Morning: Inlaws come to us
Christmas Noon: We go to my parents
Christmas Afternoon: We go to family friends w/my parents

Is it a wonder I insisted on hosting Thanksgiving this year? I just to spend the day in one place!!! Oh well, we always have a good time!!!!

Jacqueline1212 Nov 30th, 2004 06:52 AM

At home in MA with family and friends. I could NEVER spend Christmas in a warm place. It wouldn't feel like Christmas. I am definitely a winter person, even in my senior years. Happy Holidays to all.

SaraLou Nov 30th, 2004 07:41 AM

At home with family and our newborn baby that is due on Xmas day. (Hoping to not be in the hospital on Xmas.)

kcapuani Nov 30th, 2004 07:58 AM

In my new house with my husband and daughter, but leaving for Naples, FL on Dec 29th to visit our family.

saralou - Best of luck to you! I was due on
12/25/03 but ended up having my daughter on 12/31.

travelplans Nov 30th, 2004 08:55 AM

here but busy putting final touches on an extended visit to the UK and ship home. Should be fun, and it takes away the pain of not going someplace for the holidays. Hope all will have a happy time and enjoy a peaceful time.

Byrd Nov 30th, 2004 08:59 AM

At home, with all children and grandchildren here!

We'll go to family Christmas Eve service at 6 p.m., then come home for our traditional gathering. This year there should be 30 to 40 friends, along with their children and grandchildren.

Our house is at its best at Christmas, and we enjoy "decking the halls" with smilax, holly, and pine from our own woods.

Sort of at home/sort of on vacation... at my parents in Madrid (Spain).

travelinwifey Nov 30th, 2004 09:38 AM

Home, home. To shake things up a bit we may play tourist and stay overnight at the Bellagio or Venetian. Last year we stayed at the Mandalay Bay and had a great time.

P_M Nov 30th, 2004 09:45 AM

We always travel out-of-town to a relative's home, but this year, for the first time in my adult life, I will be staying home. YEAH!! It will be so great to have a quiet day at home without the crazy family drama. However, for New Year's Day I will go to my Mom's house in NE Texas and we will drive to Shreveport, LA to visit the casinos. If I hit a mega-millions jackpot, I will fly all my Fodorite pals with me to Paris!! :-))
