For a real NYC dinner? Any advice about "The Club Room" is a Jacket required! I even think they would like the Deli`s, like Carneigie and the like.

One guest in our party is handicapped, so waitng for a seat at the Deli might be a bit of trouble...Could anyone offer any suggestions for a REAL NYC dinner ( wanting to take in the whole culture too).

Any restaurant in NYC should provide you with a real NYC dinner.

I would avoid any chain restaurants.

What is your price limit?

Skip Carnegie and eat a Second Avenue Deli. Second Avenue is a real kosher NYC deli. Desert at Venerios.

The price range is $$ to $$$. The Deli name is Second Avenue Deli? Real Kosher? That is what we are looking for!

Cheesecake (my opinion) is their specialty. It is right around the corner from Second Ave Deli. Try the Sicillian.

I'd be more worried about waiting for a table at Veniero's than the deli. What/where is the Club Room? Do you mean the 21 Club?

Could you mean the CUB Room on Prince Street? That sould be a nice dinner in Soho which would be great for after dinner walking and window shopping. We have often taken guests there then wandered around the neighborhood after.
The have a wheel chair ramp also.

2nd Avenue Deli is great and probably my favorite, but for another real NYC experience, try Katz's deli on Houston St. (if you go, you may recognize it from several movies, including When Harry met Sally).

If you are talking about '21' Club, I have been there several times and eaten the $30 burger and it is everything it is hyped to be.

GoTravel - would you recommend Club 21 for dinner? I thought Club 21 was a nightclub? Is it just a restaurant?

girldigital- I would NOT recommend the 21 Club for dinner as there are way way better restaurants in NYC than that....

For incredible Italian, try Babbo- one of Mario Batali's ( Foodnetwork's Mario does Italy) restaurants...

Unless you are going to '21' for lunch or an expense account dinner, look elsewhere. Don't get me wrong, it is good and a fun NYC experience but not excellent and it is very expensive. Lunch for two will cost you around $100.

For the same money, March, Babbo, Daniel, or Gramercy Tavern for dinner.

Another "must" at Veneiro's - cannolis!

I happen to like the 21 Club. Great history (it was a speakeasy during prohibition), the bar is terrific & has mementos from lots of famous people who frequented the place. They have a $36 pre theater dinner if you're willing to eat early. The Zagat guide calls it "still the ultimate NY experience."

I agree mclaurie, it is good and a fun NYC experience. Love the toys hanging from the ceiling.

For a more old-style Italian pastry shop, and maybe not as crowded as Veniero's, try Di Robertis, just across First Avenue at 11th St.

The best cannolo is at Bruno's on LaGuardia Place. They stuff them when you order them--the shell stays crisp.
