Where to stay in Maui & why?
We will be going to Oahu and Maui in June 2003.Can anyone recommend a moderately priced hotel in Kapalani or Lahania?--Where would you suggest for Oahu-Wakikiarea?
Thanks!
|
Kapalani? Do you mean Kaanapali or Kapalua ?

Lahaina is a town and although there are places to stay in Lahaina it is not a prime area and there are no beaches. I think it is probably Kaanapali where you want to be - right ?

If it is Kannapalli the Embassy Suites are very nice, the breakfast buffet is great!!
|
The Embassy Suites is a timeshare, not the typical ES chain you think of on the mainland.
It is to be avoided unless you need buffet food and don't mind hordes of kids running around, and a pretty weak beach.

Thanks for the input. I do mean Kaanapali.Keep the info coming.Recommended places to stay, see, do,and eat!

I have stayed for years at the Maui Kai. It is located right next door to the Embassy Suites but is much better in my opinion. The Maui Kai is right out on the point. You cannot even see any other properites from the lanais. All units are ocean front and very charming. Each are individually owened so they have their own personality. We have stayed in unit 402 for the last several trips and love it. It just feels like a home instead of a hotel. Our unit had a full kitchen including full sized refridgerator, stove/oven, mircowave, dishwasher, toaster, blender, pots & pans, casserole dishes, glasses, flatware, beach mats, ice chest, VCR, CD, DVD, Stereo, etc.

The website is www.MauiKai.com. Enjoy!!

Karen, their brochure picture looks a little misleading - implies no one else around. Drove by there last May & looked OK from outside. Certainly interested in the place tho'. Thanks

If you have kids, you may want to look into renting a golf villa at Kapalua. On course but great view of ocean and obviously cheaper than beachfront. You have access to the pool and beach of the Ritz-Carlton without paying for it. Also, gives you a kitchen and washer/dryer.

I like Hilton Hawaiian Village on Wakiki.
|
Hi, I am also looking for a nice condo accomodation for april for 5 people( 3 adults and 2 teenagers in Maui. How would I access reservations to the golf villas you make mention of in Kapalua? Is it very far from the beach?
|
Liz,

Kapalua.com should give you all the info and contact numbers for reservations. Also, they will send you a packet of info upon request.

Golf villas have great views of ocean and Molokai (neighboring island). It is an easy drive (3 minutes) or decent walk (10 minutes) over to the beach at the Ritz or Kapalua Bay Hotel. You can also rent villas on the beach which we did in November. Our villa was about 200 feet from beach.

The Embassy Suites is not in Kaanapali. It is in Honokowai about thre miles north of Kaanapali.

The two most moderately priced hotels in Kaanapali are The Kaanapali Beach Hotel and The Royal Lahaina.

WHY
|
This is Karen,

I agree, the website photos do only show the Maui Kai building, but it is located right next to the Embassy Suites. That is a good thing because they have a nice patio bar for drinks and snacks and a wonderful torch-lighting ceremony at sunset. It is however, located right out on the point. You cannot see that hotel from the lanais unless you have the units that include north facing windows. Almost all units have an ocean only view.

It really is nice.
|
My sister and I stayed at the Embassy Suites in a one bedrm. It is in Kaanapali and the beach is AWESOME there!! This is the place we will definetly return w/our entire family. We went in April of 02 and it was not overrun w/kids. It was probably average, but not crowded in the least. The beach is so wonderful there. The beautiful white sand both ways for a few miles. It makes for great walking. We really enjoyed the breakfasts and the happy hour 4-6pm ,, very nice!
|
If you stayed at the Embassy Suites, you did not stay in Kaanapali. The Embassy Suites is in Honokowai.
|
Rusty,

I respectfully disagree w/you. You need to pull out the map. We were right by "Black Rock" and on the prime Kaanapoli beach, which is fabulous.
|
Hi Stacy! Sorry I have to agree with Rusty. I think you're confusing the Sheraton Maui with the Embassy Suites. The Sherton Maui is the one that has Black Rock in front of it and the Sheraton is the resort that has the PRIME Kaanapali Beach Front. I've stayed at both places (Sheraton and Embassy) and the Embassy is located farther north past the Kaanapali and is located where Rusty said.

Cheers,
Tracey
|
While the Embassy suites are not in the Kaanapali resort itself, I think that they are close enough to ALMOST be included..
|
Go to the web site below for an aerial view of Kaanapali Beach. As TFinn stated, Black Rock is directly in front of the Sheraton. Embassy Suites is about 1.5 to 2 miles north of Black Rock and the Sheraton. Embassy is far out of the picture to the left.
http://www.kaanapaliresort.com/accommodations.html

Okay ... I give:-) Technically it may not be in Kaanapali, but in my RCI Directory of Resorts .. the name is Embassy Vacation Resort at Kaanapali with the city listed at Lahaina. (104 Kaanapali Shores Place)

We just stayed there last April and we did walk to the Black Rock along the beach which I am guessing is about 3/4 mile or so. And the beach is great:-) It is amazing to me because we stayed only a few miles North in 2000 (in Kahana) and man is the beach ever different there .. gray, rough and not so nice.

Thx for the insights :-)
