I second the nomination for Bubby's--the best home cookin' breakfast ever! Also, good burgers at Noho Star. The best southern barbeque at Virgil's. They also make terrific dogs. Katz's deli is amazing (get either the LEAN corned beef or a brisket sandwich). Try Jezebel for southern fried chicken or catfish. Have a great time!

Vince--I am sorry you did not get completely cordial responses to your question.

A favorite hamburger place is Corner Bistro in the Village on Hudson Streeet, or near it, it usually gets voted best hamburger.

Hot dogs--anyplace with Papaya in the title--Gray's Papaya OR Papaya King. There places are a weird great NY institution, with the specialty of the combination of hot dots and papaya beverages. Also for hot dogs: Katz's, already mentioned. A great New York experience, semi-untouched by time.

Pizza--John's is great, the original one is on Bleecker Street, unless it closed.

New Corner Bistro, Magnoia Bakery (or Cafe, I forget), go there for truly American cake and coffee. Seats about 6 people but nobody stays very long.

Where are you coming from? There are other places featuring the food of various American regions (like Tex-Mex), do you want that kind of thing too?
