Where Did Freaky Friday Go?

I can't seem to pull up Freaky Friday. Is it just my computer?

TheWeasel May 6th, 2006 11:54 AM

I only read a little bit of it, but it started out really political and inspired some attacks after that. I'm guessing it was deleted/frozen because of personal attacks.

mikemo May 6th, 2006 12:04 PM

I thought most fairly gentle and good natured.
Perhaps my head is thicker than my skin.
Feliz fin de semana.

mikemo May 6th, 2006 12:21 PM

Guess all the researce I did re: the ethanol fuel rip off may have contributed.
Oil Industry execs are Santa Claus compared to the ADM, et.al. gougers, imhpo.

annesherrod May 6th, 2006 12:27 PM

The U/K question was pulled too....

but that one was completely childish banter and idiotic....

mikemo May 6th, 2006 12:27 PM

And the very worst:

We were all encouraging others to get their colonoscopies.

Fodor's monitors should be really ashamed!!!!

jorr May 6th, 2006 12:34 PM

TheWeasel, there were in fact some attacks and the thread was deleted. The attacker knows who he is and he can not stop his foul mouth from getting a thread deleted.

Mikemo, You were not the attacker and nothing you posted was offensive.

beachbum May 6th, 2006 12:38 PM

The truth, jorr, is that you started the thread in the attack mode.

jorr May 6th, 2006 12:47 PM

beachbum, you are absolutely wrong. I did not attack anything. FFR&R is open to everyone and I have always invited everyone to post.

divingaggie May 6th, 2006 01:08 PM

It's a shame because most of the posts were very positive. I think that Jorr always throws out things to think about--whether funny or provocative. Too bad some people want to turn it into personal attacks. I personally just skim past the political stuff and just read the more personal posts about fellow Fodorites' real rants and raves.

OneWanderingJew May 6th, 2006 01:11 PM

Well, just checking in and looks like I won't get any recaps. Putting politics aside, how's everyone?!

I hope this week was filled with good health news and happy thoughts for everyone!

escargot May 6th, 2006 01:18 PM

Gee, and I was just checking in to see what had been added to FF rants and raves and now it is gone....and I was going to add a new Rave -
that isn't it great we live in the USA and can voice opposing sides to anything without retribution.....so I guess now that becomes a Rant, although since I hadn't checked it for a day maybe it got so out of hand and/or became far too political for a travelers forum so there wasn't a choice.....either way - RAVE the weather is still great in New England !

cmcfong May 6th, 2006 01:40 PM

OWJ, have you visited Argentina? I saw a post by someone with a similar screenname and wondered if it were you.

OldSouthernBelle May 6th, 2006 01:44 PM

Yeah, what I had seen was good natured humor...Oh well.

Had a good couple days in Perdido Beach/Gulf Shores area this week, where DH had a meeting. He/his dept. received a special achievement/excellence award ( unexpected ) so that was very nice!

So how are you doing OWJ?

Presently we are awaiting the youngest DS to arrive for a visit and to go celebrate the BD of the eldest with his DW.

Had a couple of brief showers yesterday, but the huge rainfall predicted just doesn't seem to be materializing...and we need it desperately!

DH finished with the garage floor today. It looks alot better. Next, we are thinking of redoing the cool decking around the pool...maybe something a couple of shades darker since the white blinds you on 'pretty' days.

seetheworld May 6th, 2006 01:47 PM

Truthfully, I'm glad it was deleted.

Rave: Booked our tickets to London.
Rave: Booked our tickets to Portugal.
Rant: Have to wait until July to go.

P_M May 6th, 2006 01:57 PM

I did my first R&R post in the morning, then just before the thread was deleted I made a very long post to name everyone and wish them well, and also to post some late-breaking news. I'm going to be a granny-aunt!! I'll give details on the next R&R, since most people probably never saw my post from last night. I'm so exicted!! \:D/

And for the record, I'm EXTREMELY young to be a granny-aunt!! My sister was only 17 (almost 18) when her son (my nephew) was born, now my nephew is becoming a dad at only 23. So in a few months, my sister will be a 41-year-old granny. :-)

seetheworld May 6th, 2006 02:04 PM

Congratulations PM!

I've never heard the term "granny aunt" before. :D Being an aunt (see, I'm just a plain aunt, lol) is great and it's lots of fun too!

P_M May 6th, 2006 02:14 PM

You've probably never heard that term before because I created it. :-D I've always said I wanted to be a granny, but since I'm not a mom, that makes it difficult. Therefore I came up with the term granny-aunt. That's my contribution to the English language. :-D

seetheworld May 6th, 2006 02:16 PM

We call that a great-aunt. You're gonna be pretty great at it too! :D Again, congratulations!!

P_M May 6th, 2006 02:20 PM

Thanks, stw!! Where I come from we also say great-aunt, but that makes me fee REALLY old. :-( Somehow granny-aunt seems more fun. I don't know the exact due date yet, but I'm betting our first Christmas with the baby will be 2007. But I'm still going to start buying Christmas presents for him/her now. :-D

Oldmyst May 6th, 2006 03:41 PM

P_M, Congratulations on soon becoming a GrannyAunt!!

Rave: DD transfering to a NYC college after spending 2 1/2 years in an extremely affluent, very preppy, rigous liberal arts college. We knew she was suffering on an academic level, but didn't know she was so unhappy. She started acting out in a cry for help. It was not the school for her. We hope this will be a good turnaround in her life.

Rant: Paying for college. We were the ones who saved for college from the time our children were born. I resent the ones who spend money on themselves and their homes, don't save money for college, and get financial aid.

Rave: DH drove 3 hours to Wildwood, NJ just so younger DD could attend Winterguard finals, even though they took her part away because she couldn't make the preliminaries as she had to take the SAT test. They gave her a miniscule part in the finals. DH is on his way home driving another three hours on the NJ Turnpike as we speak!

Rant: Diagnosed with Plantar Fasciitis this week. I hope it goes away soon. I love to take long walks as exercise.

Rant: The Prince, my favorite doggie, went home to his mommy. I miss him so.

Just wanted to say that my thoughts are with all of you. I read the old thread this morning, and wrote to many of you, but it never went through. Have a great weekend and a good, healthy week.

iceeu2 May 6th, 2006 04:27 PM

Dolly Parton's nieces and nephews call her Aunt Granny! FYI.

P_M May 6th, 2006 06:22 PM

Aunt Granny, I like that. :-)

At least I would have one thing in common with Dolly Parton.... 8|

AnnMarie_C May 6th, 2006 06:43 PM

lol, P_M and congratulations!! :-)

beachbum May 6th, 2006 07:56 PM

Sorry jorr, but you're beyond naive if you think that when you rail against someone else's politics, you're not personally attacking them.

pbhomey May 6th, 2006 08:56 PM

Thank goodness that crap is gone! Want a chatroom...go to AOL!

mcnyc May 6th, 2006 09:19 PM

I was wondering what happened to FFRR! Too bad...

Congrats P_M!!! You're gonna be a fun granny-aunt!
Oldmyst: glad your daughter is going to be OK now. Being a born and bred NYer, I stayed here for college as well. Grad school may be a different story, but I might get pulled back to my alma mater depending on circumstances!

Are we saving our rants and raves for the next week then?

My thoughts to all who've suffered a loss or have worries. My joy for all who have great news. My heart to all those serving our country overseas. I'm worried about a friend who's serving in Afghanistan and was on a helicopter a few days ago that nearly crashed. To hear that one did on Friday...let's just say I hope I hear from my friend soon! [-o<

OneWanderingJew May 6th, 2006 11:20 PM

Congrats, PM!! My brothers have only started having kids in the last 5yrs (well, make that my SILs) so I have a long wait for my turn as Granny Auntie but I bet it's as fun as being Cool Auntie! Oh wait, OWJ2's nephews are all teens so maybe I'll join you in the club sooner rather than later (hopefully that may be awhile!)

cmcfong--yes, I visited Argentina (and Brazil) 3yrs ago this past July. Wonderful trip...are you headed down there? (BTW, I've only had one screenname so wonder whose name is similiar to mine--and here I was giving myself credit for being original ;)

OSB--Hi!! I'm good! Life continues to be crazy busy and filled with unexpected twists and turns but that's ok. Keeps things interesting. How are you?!? I'm jealous you just got back from Gulf Shores. OWJ2 and I were supposed to go down to Destin this weekend but his boss wouldn't let him take a long weekend b/c OWJ2 has used so many days w/his back problems...err...at least the back is better!!!!

I'm wondering how everyone who had illnesses in their families or personally is doing. Guess I missed those posts...Hope it was an easier week for all!

Happy, healthy and fun times for all!

cmcfong May 7th, 2006 02:50 AM

OWJ, the post showed up on the Latin America board. I am headed to Argentina (yippppeee)and know you to be a great resource. I just wanted to confirm it was you. It sounds like a great trip!

OneWanderingJew May 7th, 2006 04:14 AM

cmcfong--I did post over there although it's been awhile since I've checked in on the LA board. I'd be happy to help you as much as I can... I used a wonderful, and I mean woooonderful, travel agent named Cintia in Buenos Aires when I went. We ended up becoming friends and I've kept in touch with her and her husband since. Great people and so good at what they do! Let me know how I can help!

cmcfong May 7th, 2006 05:25 AM

Perfect, OWJ. I booked all my arrangements with Cintia Stella of WOW! Argentina. She has been lovely to deal with , so quick and professional. I am thrilled to have your endorsement of her. I can hardly wait to go. Any shopping tips?

OneWanderingJew May 7th, 2006 06:33 AM

Cintia would be a great source. My computer crashed a few months back and I lost all my notes...I bought a custom leather jacket while I was there--think it was on Florida Street but not sure. I'll go check and see what the label says. I also got a piece of artwork at an outdoor market near the cemetary. It's a really funky, colorful (and IMO) cool painting of the La Boca part of BsAs. I would say to not plan to shop in the fancy mall--I forget the name of the neighborhood--too expensive and geared to tourists...but then again, you should know that I like spending time where the locals are.

I went by myself and had a blast. Cintia and Matais are wonderful. Tell them Debbie from Atlanta says hello and still expects them to come and visit us :)

mikemo May 7th, 2006 07:20 AM

Not the correct forum, but we're planning trips to Argentina and Chile (totally revolving around Delta's partners and open jaw flights in skymiles/business) in Oct/Nov.
I'm overwhelmed by the many local options.
M

cmcfong May 7th, 2006 08:27 AM

Mikemo, November is definitely the time to go. Cintia has counselled me to buy all my domestic tickets now as prices are due to rise. She also recommended booking hotels so that we would be able to get our choices. The postings on the Latin America board are a super incentive.
OWJ, I will be delighted to pass on the message. I have been so impressed with their courtesy and kindness. I look forward to a chance to deliver your greetings in person.

mikemo May 7th, 2006 09:36 AM

cmcfong,
Claro and thanks, but I trust the opinions of so many folks here and at TA. We are very flexible and may stay 3 or 4 weeks, but our choices are way many.
