What's up with airfare?

I am trying to book a simple ticket from lax to denver in late august and I have never seen such high prices -- 350 for a 2 hour quick flight? whatssssssuuuuuppppp?
Laura

Welcome to our world and thank United for that. Have you tried Frontier?

How about USAirways: $400 for a trip RIC to PHL in September - it's a five hour drive. Multiply by 4 passengers and it's a real no-brainer.

go to USairways.com and see if this is one of the routes they are offering special fares on

Join the club on high airfares it has been happening to us all. Just be glad you can afford to go away

Funny how you mention it -- I just bought a ticket to richmond for August and I cannot believe how expensive it is. Richmond is ridiculous -- check out Washington, norfolk, williamsburg, etc. Good Luck!
Laura

I hear ya-- just checked on a flight from Minneapolis to San Diego...$577 for a non-stop with a Saturday stay AND even leaving Sunday at 6:30AM! Crazy--I usually pay about $250-$300. Also, Minneapolis to Dallas- $315! I used to pay $130 pre 9-11 for a non-stop. I expected prices to go up but this seems out of control.

Travelocity has a fare tracker. They will e-mail you when fares go down. That is how I found great prices for Tampa and Austin. Also, check airlines' websites on Tuesday mornings as airfares change at 12:01 a.m. on Tuesdays.

Good Luck!

Laura,

Try www.discountflights.com. My fiance and I are going to Greece in Sept. for our Honeymoon. First we tried all of the usual online web sites, Hotwire, Expedia, Travelocity, etc. Then we saw a posting on Fodors for www.discount flights.com We got our round trip tickets for $800 each on Lufthansa (the lowest on all the other sites was $1100). They have domestic fights as well. It's worth a shot. Good luck!

I've been tracking airfare for months going DFW-LGA. Finally bought 5 RT tickets (non-stop) on AA yesterday for $168 each. Today, the same flights are starting at $215.

Well I am going to Denver from NYC in August and easily found a $250 per person round trip fare on JetBlue. Of course after I booked the non-refundable tickets I found a $150 offer on United through Yahoo Travel, but the time of departure was inconveniant, and so was the airport (LGA), and JetBlue had better ratings so I decided not to go with the hassle of getting ne wtickets etc... So in general look at Yahoo! Travel and JetBlue.
