What is a troll?

On one of the threads here a person was called a "troll". What does that mean?

Thanks!

j12 Jul 9th, 2004 10:39 PM

Its a person who comes & posts mean or negative things etc. they try & start trouble.

mclaurie Jul 10th, 2004 03:50 AM

Or someone who asks question(s) that they don't really want answers to.

vacationbound Jul 10th, 2004 09:03 AM

Got it. I have noticed that there are some people that do seem to go out of their way just to be mean or nasty on here. Fortunately they seem to be the minority. Thanks for the info.

A troll is someone who tries to get attention by posting something inflamatory. They might post something racist on a black culture group, that sort of thing. The best way to handle trolls is to ignore them - they are only looking for attention.

Trolls have big ears. Way bigger than Mr. Spock's.

These they try to keep covered under a dark hat. <):)

They also tend to wear dark glasses -to conceal the glint of mischief in their eyes. ((h))

easytraveler
not a troll :B

Thanks for all of the info. I will beware of trolls both on and off the internet.

Nice visuals easytraver! ;)

Trolls live under bridges. They lurk and wait for you to cross their domain.

Trolls also tend to increase in number and activity during the summer months--the timing of the increase miraculously coinciding with school (particularly middle school) summer vacations.

jimshep Jul 10th, 2004 05:02 PM

It is a short, old person like Morely Safer.

A troll in this context is a person that is pretending to be someone that they are not. Someone that comes on this site and "goofs" on other people. I was incorrectly refered to as a troll and I did not like it.

gojacks Jul 12th, 2004 11:54 AM

Trolls are not always negative or racist, and dont always post to "start trouble". A correlation would be someone fishing "trolls" to catch a fish. A troll would post something to see how many responses he/she could get. Some trolls post just to have fun and not to irritate. But,then again, some people just take offense too easily.

Aging myself here but trolls are:

Long bright colored hair with short plastic boddies (4-6 inches tall) and no clothes.

Alternatively, Shrek is a troll IMHO.

Cassandra: You just made me laugh out loud!

atilla Jul 16th, 2004 08:21 AM

Good one Cassandra, Travdis' last asinine question was pulled very quickly. (thankfully)

iceeu2 Jul 16th, 2004 09:44 AM

Speaking of trolls....what happened to Bunch?

rjw_lgb_ca Jul 16th, 2004 09:48 AM

iceeu2: Bunchargum, judging by inanity of questions and banality of writing style, is now travdis. And our resident troll is back under the bridge ringing his/her bell...!

travdis Jul 16th, 2004 09:52 AM

Who is this bunchargum person I am supose to be?

elberko Jul 16th, 2004 09:57 AM

Do a search on any of these names and you'll see an amazing coincidence in "voice". Of course, a fair percentage of the posts end up being pulled by Fodor's...
