what do you crave when you come back home?
 

What foods do you crave when you arrive home from a trip? For me, coming home to LA means a big in n' out burger.

It depends where I've been and what I've eaten while away.....When I come back from Maine, I still crave the fresh lobster and lobster rolls....When I come back from Alaska, I still crave the salmon and caribou dishes...

For me, I crave some good Mexican food when I return home. Other parts of the country just don't seem to have Mexican food like we are blessed with in Southern California. Though I must say that an In & Out Burger is also high up there on my list.

The only time I've ever craved certain things back home was after long stints (from several months up to a year) overseas. I don't think a vacation to another part of the US has ever made me miss a certain type of food.

When I come home from anyplace I want to go have a margarita at the Miracle Grill here in NYC, which is my favorite drink on the planet. (And--I can't drink much of anything alcoholic except tequila, so often if I've been travelling I won't have had a cocktail in weeks. So it's nice to have one to mark the end of the trip.)

I forgot, really important question, what is an "in and out burger?" We don't have them here. Is it a California thing? I'm about to go to LA, maybe I could get one.

After three years of living in the Rocky Mountains, here's what I crave when I revisit my home state of California: <BR> <BR>1. FRESH and reasonably priced produce! <BR>2. Decent Mexican food <BR>3. Trader Joe's <BR>4. La Boulangerie in Sacramento <BR>5. SMOKE FREE dining! <BR> <BR> <BR>

I don't crave anything when I travel domestically. But when I leave the country I crave belonging. I love traveling and discovering feeling like a memember of the international community. When we land again in the U.S. I always am so glad to see the custom people like they are family welcoming me home. I know I will not get some antagonistic question about the U.S. I know people will just accept me for me at least this is how I feel until some caby in NYC flips me the bird.:):)

When I come back to Long Island after being away a while, I want a good bagel and a good slice of pizza. Everyone has these things, but not many can compare to here. All three daughters, when away at college, had requests to bring up these things when we visited, or when they came home for breaks, it was always on the list of things to get.

When I come home from anywhere abroad, I crave very cold skim milk. I know that you can find skim milk throughout Europe, but it doesn't seem to be as readily available as whole milk, and it's never cold enough for me. I can only enjoy it when it's very, very cold.

Elizabeth - In & Out Burgers is a California chain - the best fast food burgers around! Be sure to try a double double when you're out here visiting. Order it "animal style" like a local. That includes extra sauce and grilled onions. When I get back from international travels, the first stop on the way home from the airport is an In & Out Burger stand.

I usually crave the cuisine of the place I just returned from. I don't care if I never eat another bagel in my life (and we do get good ones in Long Island). I'd rather have French cheeses, breads and wines any day! :-)

For me it's always been Italian. Don't know why and can't explain it, but nothing tastes better to me when I get home than a nice plate of lasagna, spaghetti and meatballs or a good pizza.

I think it depends on the destination I've returned FROM....I just got back to Honolulu from Atlanta last night and the first thing I wanted to eat was some nice, fresh, reasonably priced sushi. not that I know much about sushi in Atlanta, but I was only eating Southern fare all week. <BR> <BR>When I come home from San Francisco, which is culinarily like Hawaii, then I simply crave anything my mom makes. <BR> <BR>When I come home from Europe, for some reason I crave Vietnamese food!

I must say (I hope this doesn't sound like I'm bragging!), I crave my own cooking! Although one of the highlights of vacationing is eating in restaurants (and not having to do the dishes!), I do miss "my" food. Upon returning home, I usually make some of my favorite meals. Chinese take-out from my favorite neighborhood restaurant is a close second! ;-)

Deep Dish Chicago pizza is in a league all its own!!! <BR>That wimpy cardboard crust stuff in Italy smells good but is for pantywaists.
