Great question!

We love the Hastings House on Salt Spring Island - the Scottsdale Fairmont Princess - Hotel 1000 in Seattle to name a few.

Oh! And someday would love to stay at the Waldorf Astoria :)

Have been to both The Plaza and Waldorf=Astoria in NYC. Hands down the Waldorf is better and we were upgraded to a suite that even had a baby grand piano in the living room! But my dream splurge for the future will have to be Le Sirenuse in Positano, Italy. I want to stay in the room with the bath tub that looks out to the sea. At over 1,000 Euros per night, I doubt that it will happen anytime soon.

Back in the day before registration here and a huge internet presence, it would have been Ladera in Saint Lucia - I still have the purchased bathrobe hanging in my bath as a reminder.

Those were heady days, but somewhere over the years it lost its lustre once everyone knew about it. It was fun as a hidden gem back then in its creative days. No desire, as those days are gone. For me anyway.

As far as Splurge Hotels, I really don't covett many. I guess I have been blessed to stay at some of the very best. That just does not define my travel style and who I am today.

Peter Island BVI

Any Oberoi in India - the last word in service and ambience, especially the one at Ranthampore - the most luxurious 'tent' you are ever likely to sleep in.

The Stafford -London really nice boutique hotel in Mayfair.

kellyhayes Mar 28th, 2008 01:39 PM

Ritz-Carlton Naples. The service is just amazing.

Ladera has lost its lustre? That's news to me. I've been twice since 1996 and I didn't notice any loss of sheen. :-)

Dang, I missed my chance for the Post Ranch Inn a couple of weeks ago. Gotta go back, I guess.

We had a great May trip from Vancouver to Banff, and got snowed in during the last week of May at Chateau Lake Louise. It was absolutely gorgeous!

The April issue of Country Living magazine has a nice article on Blackberry Farm starting on page 108.

I may have to find an alternate for the Greyfield Inn. $500 for a shared bath is steep, even if meals and ferry are included :-)

Thanks for the great ideas so far!

Hmmm.....don't splurge too often because I am a very frugal traveler but we really enjoyed Turtle Bay (was a Hilton when we stayed there) on Oahu.

I've also stayed at the Palmer House in Chicago.

But the best place was the house that we rented in Tortola....private home, own pool and jacuzzi, chef for three dinners with an awesome view from the top of the hill out towards St. Thomas.

Now we have a timeshare so we normally stay in a condo when we travel.

Would love to stay:
Fairmont Whistler (B.C)
Fairmont Princess (Bermuda)
or any other Fairmont is a gorgeous area.
