My entire house was swaying a bit. I got to the kitchen doorway and just stood there watching the lights in the hallway swinging back and forth.

Definitely the biggest shaking since Loma Prieta for me. Nothing keeled over, thank goodness, unlike last time when my beautiful screen fell in my living room.

dawnoelm--agree about the supplies. I live on a small, private street and we have often discussed buying a generator in order to have one refrigerator (four out of five families have small kids). We'll be working on that tomorrow! Be safe.

Well, my husband and I were in SF for dinner and didn't feel a thing! He signed the credit card receipt at 7:45 and then we walked to the car parked a block away in the basement of the Embarcadero 1 office building! As we were searching for the car, I was thinking how I would not want to be in that basement in an earthquake! We must have already gotten out and been on the road when it hit. Probably arguing about how to get on the freeway!

At home in South SJ, a couple of pictures were really crooked but nothing fell over. The cat was happy to see us!

From what I read people even east of Sacramento felt the EQ..but here in Vacaville I didn't..maybe because I was outside on the patio?

I was so glad to hear there is no damage or injuries.

And yes this EQ is a good reminder to all of us to make sure we have needed supplies in our houses.

I must really be an idiot, five miles from the epicenter and I missed it because I was on a power walk with the iPod on. I hit a patch where I lost my footing, thought it was because I misjudged the sidewalk level in the darkness. Guess not! I noticed something was up when all of a sudden a lot of people were out and chatting on the sidewalk. My dog, for the first time in her 12 years, refused to go on the walk with me (ran away when I brought out the leash). Now we know why.

Glad to hear you are all OK in No. Calif especially those in the San Jose area. I guess Mother Nature is acting up in California, fires in the South, earthquakes in the North. Hopefully we will soon get a respite from these events.

What's earthquake weather?

Glad everyone is OK.

We live on the New Madrid fault in MO. We have little quakes, nothing big, but it scares me if I think about it!

Earthquake weather, to me, seems to be when the skies are kinda cloudy, a bit humid,and the air is very, very still. I almost can't explain it... it just "feels like earthquake weather."

Maybe someone else can be more articulate about it or will understand what I'm trying to say!

Ditto moneygirl. Although I guess there is no such thing as earthquake weather.
That was a good shaker last night though. Here in Santa Cruz it shook hard then, slowed down a little and shook again. It lasted longer than small quakes usually last.
My dogs were driving me nuts yesterday and my husband said we would probably have a quake.

Good morning Moneygirl, I know exactly what you mean although I didn't notice that "feeling" in the air yesterday.

One thing I did think of when getting ready for bed is this. I was out in my patio when the EQ hit and like I said previously I did not feel it. But..thinking back I remember wondering why all the squirrels in the trees surrounding two sides of my patio were acting very strange. They skitter around early morning but never in the evening. Last night they were quite rambuctious..and I did wonder what their "problem" was. No doubt it was due to the EQ. The very tall trees were shaking quite a bit also which I thought was due to the highly nervous activity of the squirells but perhaps the trees were shaking from the EQ. I really don't know of course. Stay safe!

I'm glad you're all OK. I know just what you mean by "earthquake weather". It's difficult to explain though. Maybe we just have a kind of sixth sense feeling that one is coming.

As I missed the big one in 1989, this was the strongest. And the scariest. I kept telling to myself: go to the door, but couldn't move as I felt like paralized with fear. Like a Halloween movie or something.

Downtown San Francisco, the blinds were shaking and rattling, and it felt strong, but that's it. Nothing moved or fell.

I though animals feel an earthquake coming, but we didn't hear the dog upstairs barking. Maybe it was not at home.

I called everybody - the older the relative, the more agitated s/he was. My uncle held on to his TV so it won't fall off and break - his wife now knows, and will remember, his priorities :)

Right from 8.05 I started to switch the channels trying to find any info on TV. The only program they've interrupted is KRON channel 4 showing Dr Phil. I guess, nobody would complain for stopping him :)

We were relaxing with a couple of beers, so when we realized the EQ was going to be more than just a tremor, we took our beers and stood in the doorway - stood there looking at each other like, hmmmmm, is this going to be a big one? We had a few things fall down, but nothing big - shampoo jumping into the tub, etc.

When I got into work this morning though, all my file cabinet drawers were open.

The EQ last night did feel like it could turn into a Big One. It was kind of a weird one. We got in the doorway too once we figured out the first jolt wasn't all there was to it. My daughter said 'this so exciting', ah youth.

J_Correa, I am so glad that you have the EQ drill down pat! Taking your drink of choice while you go to stand in a doorway is rule no. one, is it not!!! I did that in the 89 EQ, lol. Faina your uncle sounds like my late husband. He was all settled in to watch the SF/Oakland World Series and instead of reacting to the EQ he got angry because the TV reception went off. Men!!!
