We're having an earthquake!

I live east of SF--about 40 miles and we just had a good one--hope everyone is safe!

Betsy Oct 30th, 2007 07:13 PM

Safe in Sunnyvale. Strongest shake I've felt since 1989!

TrvlMaven Oct 30th, 2007 07:15 PM

The usgs website shows it down near you--magnitude 5.6! Alum Rock, exactly.

MonicaH Oct 30th, 2007 07:18 PM

Checking in from South San Jose....wow, that was a good one. No damage reported yet.

cigalechanta Oct 30th, 2007 07:27 PM

THANK GOODNESS!

Betsy Oct 30th, 2007 07:46 PM

KGO radio is reporting four aftershocks, each around a magnitude of two. Although we haven't felt the aftershocks, the kitchen pot rack is still swaying a bit.

TrvlMaven Oct 30th, 2007 07:48 PM

Yep--I think we're gonna rock 'n roll a bit tonight.

trippinkpj Oct 30th, 2007 07:50 PM

I felt it in South San Jose also. We had a couple light fixtures swinging. Both DH and I went to a doorway, as we were putting away groceries.

nancy1652 Oct 30th, 2007 07:51 PM

Felt it very strongly all the way in Berkeley...I prefer the quick jolts to these rolling ones...as if we had a choice!

moneygirl Oct 30th, 2007 07:54 PM

Glad you're all safe... didn't feel anything here in Grover Beach.

I thought it was eartquake weather yesterday... in fact we were discussing it at work!

Spooky!!

dmlove Oct 30th, 2007 07:54 PM

Pretty good in Burlingame. No damage.

dawnnoelm Oct 30th, 2007 08:13 PM

So glad everyone appears to be safe! Scary times!

enzian Oct 30th, 2007 08:14 PM

We just got off the phone with our daughter (college at Santa Clara) and son (living in San Francisco). Everyone is OK; including those around them.

Hopefully that is the end of it.

The little ones (earthquakes that do no damage) are OK.

LucieV Oct 30th, 2007 08:15 PM

No damage, but boy was that a long and bumpy ride! We actually got up and went to stand in the doorway...it really rolled here!

dawnnoelm Oct 30th, 2007 08:18 PM

LucieV (((Hugs)))) That is so scary. Having lived in California most of my life it is always one of thoughts "humm... (when it starts to shake)...hummm..how long is this one going to take?..." and then when it just goes on for what seems forever and you spring into action on getting some place safe when it is just that milli-second "too" long.

TrvlMaven Oct 30th, 2007 08:20 PM

Then, while you're standing in the doorway (or under the table) your procrastination gets to you about not having all the supplies like you should have! Sure know what I'll be doing tomorrow! Be prepared folks!

elnap29 Oct 30th, 2007 08:20 PM

Felt it here in Napa Valley - the light fixture was swinging for some time. Glad everyone is OK.

LucieV Oct 30th, 2007 08:22 PM

trippin, I just noticed your post. You were in the epicenter, right?

That was very definitely the real magoo...kind of exciting and scary at the same time!

MonicaH Oct 30th, 2007 08:24 PM

Hmmmm, and I was just commenting on how long it has been since I have felt an earthquake. Won't make that mistake again!

Happy everyone is safe!

dawnnoelm Oct 30th, 2007 08:35 PM

travelmvn - we started having a large number of "small" quakes in September centered in our area 4.7, 3.7, 4.0 all within a few weeks. I felt them all and was nervous.

I ordered an Earthquake Kit online - enough for 10 people (we have a large family) for 10 days. I just figured - better be safe then sorry. Dh and my family LOL a little at me. I don't mind.
