Another place we stopped into while we were in Lahaina just out of curiousity, but ended up making a fairly major purchase was the Honolulu Cookie Company. They make these really delicious shortbread cookies in the shape of a pineapple. They come in all sorts of flavors from pineapple to lilikoi to chocolate dipped coconut, etc, etc. The shop was very cute and the product was well merchandised (my old business was retail store design) and sort made you want to buy their products. WARNING! They are not cheap! Something this good though is worth the price...especially when on vacation. :) They do custom gift box combos that would make great holiday gifts. Of course the will deliver all over the world. In fact most everyone on my list next year is going to get a box. We bought a couple of bags and they were gone in two days. Addictive is the adjective that comes to mind.

Thank you Paula, for telling the $20 tea story!!!! Love it!

gteacher Mar 7th, 2011 05:21 PM

Thanks for sharing! Your trip report is awesome. Glad you had such a wonderfu

gteacher Mar 7th, 2011 05:22 PM

Sorry...DS hit the "submit" before I finished. lol. Glad you had such a wonderful trip. Those cookies sound yummy, especially the coconut, chocolate ones.

paula1470 Mar 7th, 2011 05:35 PM

iceeu2-Loved the tea story. The tea was very good and the bottle was very big but not sure about that $20 price tag. Probably a better value than my wine, though.

iamq-Wow those cookies sound so good. Well that will be a good reason for me to return to Maui soon but I may have to order some before then!

Songdoc Mar 7th, 2011 05:37 PM

"Songdoc...we are shooting for May/June (late b'day present for Mrs K) for Taste Of Hawaii but I'm sure we'll be in different places together again on Kauai."

Can't she move her birthday? I won't arrive until late June and will stay through the Kauai Music Festival which will be July 14 - 16.

I want to know how that $20 tea tasted. I hope it was like Dom Perignon.

Reminds me of Norway. At an admittedly very expensive, elegant restaurant we had 2 sandwiches; 2 coffees; 1 dessert ... $115. AGGGHH.

iamq Mar 7th, 2011 06:35 PM

Enough already with the $20 bottle of tea!!!!!!! I was shocked that such a thing even existed.

It was delicious and being "rich Californians" (icee calls us that all the time) we could certainly afford it so why the hell not? LOL.

Like I said it is one of those travel stories that will or apparently already has taken on a life of its own. :)

Kealalani Mar 7th, 2011 06:40 PM

I recall my time at the Four Seasons fondly. On a night of great heartbreak we met a new friend at Spago's bar and talked story. He drank a bottle of Chrystal and a bowl of mashed potatoes.

The tea sounds divine! And much better then a bottle of black bottle champagne.

Kal Mar 7th, 2011 06:41 PM

I'll take the wine, woman and you can have the song.\:D/

We still laff at the $10 beers in Venice's Piazza San Marco....complete with pigeon poop! NO KA OI!

Barbara5353 Mar 8th, 2011 09:13 AM

Tins full of Honolulu Cookies were my 2010 holiday gifts to family...with an extra one for me since the shipping charges were the same. I may have to order more for continued taste tests to determine which are my favorite flavors. (NOT the one with the coffee bean in the middle)

Kealalani Mar 8th, 2011 09:33 AM

Thanks for sending my pictures, you two really are rich californiannees. Loved clicking on the slide show.

Barbara, that's the first thing I thought of when I saw all the great assortments. Holiday Gifts!

kanunu Mar 9th, 2011 03:23 PM

All this...... and not one wild chicken story? And no man-eater mosquito tales? No wildly glorious rainbows???

You would have had some, if you hadn't abandoned Kauai! Tell me that you haven't spurned her forever..... please?

ynotc2001 Mar 9th, 2011 04:24 PM

imaq - great reading - thank you. Now, will you share: just WHERE is the proverbial grass shack and how do I book it? Hoping to g to Maui later this year.

Cheers.

iamq Mar 9th, 2011 04:40 PM

ynotc, if you email me at wp94025 at yahoo dot com I MIGHT divulge the particulars.

kanunu...and no overpriced kayak rental stories, and tales of crappy restuarants and no tales of reef walkers at Ka'e either and indignant tourist complaining that there is nothng to do!

I love that word spurned!

Forever is an awful long time...Not to worry...once Hanalei is in under your skin, there is no getting it out. There is NOTHING like Hanalei on Maui. There is nothing like Makua (Tunnels) beach on Maui either.

apples and oranges...mangoes and lilikois, etc, etc...

Nice to see you posting!

jillc1 Mar 15th, 2011 12:35 PM

Enjoying reading your posts and am busy copying the restaurants. Heading to Maui soon; but I might have 4-5 nites on my own and woudl love to get any reccomendations on which part of the island to stay on...or Kaui- wanting to do some exploring and also R&r... will be at Kapalua for 7 days and not sure how to break up the trip, etc.

Dayenu Mar 15th, 2011 01:32 PM

Now I am getting scared. Dreaming of finally visiting Hawaii, and here you're telling me about $20 tea and being lashed with wet noodles :-p

iamq Mar 15th, 2011 01:58 PM

jillc1, If you like lush green beauty and isolation and natural wonders, spending a few nights in Hana or Kipahulu might be interesting. Then again, a few nights on the beach in Wailea/Makena would be great as well.

beanweb just posted some great information on the places he/she ate on his/her 4 day solo trip. Check out his/her trip report.

Dayenu, don't knock being lashed with a wet noodle until you've tried it! Skip the tea.

Loved your trip report as usual...

Don't worry about the $20 tee, we had 3 Pizzas (from Hanalei) that cost $80. This was about 7 years ago!

iamq Apr 16th, 2011 06:52 AM

gmac, any plans for a hell-hole visit?

gmac Apr 20th, 2011 10:58 AM

I am having Cinco de Mayo in Kauai this year....counting down...We'll stay until 5/20. Can't wait!

iamq Apr 20th, 2011 02:36 PM

Bahhhhh! How multicultural of you!

Have a great time, but watch out for cockroaches hiding under the floor mats in your rental car.

iamq Aug 14th, 2011 12:37 PM

Well, it had to happen. The owners of the our Little Grass Shack appear to have upped the price and have priced it out our reach. X(

So it is back to the hell-hole! 365 days and counting. :)

kanunu Aug 17th, 2011 07:02 PM

Looks like its time to find another Little Grass Shack..... unfortunately.
Kind of like a fishermen telling where his secret hot spot is.... and everyone rushes to it, so it is no longer "hot", for him, or anyone else.
Hey, this is how Kauai got to be a hell-hole, isn't it?
What's that bumper sticker, seen on Kauai? Something about telling your friends to go to Maui???

iamq Aug 17th, 2011 08:46 PM

"People who love Kauai send their friends to Maui."

kanunu Aug 20th, 2011 07:04 AM

That's the one!
Perfect......

iamq Aug 21st, 2011 09:32 AM

Kal used that one on me and it worked for a couple of years...but I am back to the hell-hole again.
