Supposed to hit LA tonight or tomorrow, stay safe to all of you living up north, heard they closed the schools and cable cars, etc.

hetismij2 Dec 11th, 2014 11:40 AM

I too hope everyone stays safe. Lets hope that snow in the Sierras sticks around so folks can go skiing again on real snow, and to provide some water for next year.
I just hope people don't think the rain so far is enough to alleviate the drought and start wasting water again. I read somewhere than to make good the water shortage in California you would need a storm like this every two to three days throughout the winter.

No, we've had lots of news stories that two storms isn't enough. But it's a good start. And my persimmon tree will be very, very happy.

Very windy on the Monterey Peninsula until the rain started this morning. The wind has died down. Some of our county parks are closed. Power went out briefly at our house.

On the mid peninsula the storm hit hard around 8:00am. The winds have calmed down, but the rain is coming down strong and steady as it has since early this morning. There are some power outages in the area and lots of flooded streets due to storm drains backing up. The creek by our house is far from flooding, but the level is way up and would give a kayaker a wild ride.

I participate in a project that is documenting via photos every block in San Francisco's Mission District. I've done 4 or 5 over the past few weeks, and today (just my luck) was my morning to photograph another block. Here's a photo essay on what one block in the northern part of the Mission looked like at 7 a.m. today.

I live and work downtown. This was a lot of rain in a short period, but I don't get the school closures, business closures, and people just electing to not go to work today (the proverbial "I'm working from home today". Yeah, sure you are :-) ). Seriously, I wore a raincoat and rain boots, so I got a little wet from the top of my boots to the bottom of my raincoat. Intersections were flooded, so I walked through them (rain boots) and my DH walked around them. I've seen worse!

We've had some flooding on freeways in the south bay. Just not a good day to be driving around if you don't have too.

jamie99 Dec 12th, 2014 11:58 AM

We sure did not get as much in LA as we were hoping for, it had mostly stopped by 7am when I got up, aside from a few showers now and then.

mlgb Dec 12th, 2014 02:38 PM

We had a squall line come through around 4 am, lots of wind, some rain heavy at times but yes, it's been dry today for the most part.

Hope it holds off for a few days and lets us dry out before the next one, predicted for next week.

But keep it coming, Pineapple Express!

november_moon Dec 12th, 2014 02:48 PM

We had steady rain for about 24 hours, but it has been mostly dry here today - a few showers here and there, but nothing major. Things seem to have drained and soaked in pretty well. A big ol' dark cloud has materialized overhead since the last time I looked though - so it looks like we will get more rain soon.

wekewoody Dec 12th, 2014 03:51 PM

My location in the Bay Area got 3.5 in. in 24 hours. That is a lot for these parts. Now it is cold...50 degrees! Brrrr...

Dayle Dec 12th, 2014 04:23 PM

wekewoody,

I live in Park City, Utah and we are praying for snow and colder temps. It's been in the 60's in the SL Valley this week. Yesterday guys were playing golf in shorts. The golf courses are loving it. Usually by now our temps are in the 30's in the valley and there are several feet of snow on the runs. Not this year so far! Bummer.

wekewoody Dec 12th, 2014 07:19 PM

Dayle, the next time I pray for rain, I'll throw in a novina for snow for you. O:)
