Viewing the "wonderful whales"

Hi, how good are our chances of viewing whales, either from our location or a sight-seeing boat? I am so looking forward to seeing them. Thanks very much.

salgal Oct 20th, 2004 05:02 PM

I am not sure where you are planning on seeing whales....but we went on a tour in February on Kauai and saw several whales. I also saw one jumping out of the water from our hotel. The season in generally Dec-Mar.

TripleSecDelay Oct 20th, 2004 08:32 PM

The whales are visible in Norway from our location AND from a sight-seeing boat. What village will you be staying in?

Keith Oct 21st, 2004 05:05 AM

I saw 8 on my cruise with the New England Aquarium last month. They guarantee whales, giving a free ticket for another trip if you do not see any.

orchid Oct 26th, 2004 05:16 PM

Fantastic Keith! You really should pay attention to the location that was requested. New England was not in my question at all.It was HAWAII.

here_today_gone2Maui Oct 26th, 2004 05:28 PM

But, but, but--- you said "...either from our location or..." but you never stated your location in your post. ??!!?

They have a story about the first
whale sighted this year.

Marilyn Oct 26th, 2004 05:48 PM

orchid, you did not state time of year or place in your original post. If you clicked on "Hawaii" for the area of interest, that does not show up in the header or the text that you write. Check it out and don't be snippy unless you're 200% sure you're right.

jaspertl Oct 26th, 2004 05:54 PM

WOW! what an attitude...You owe someone an apology!

Rusty Oct 26th, 2004 06:25 PM

C'mon Orchid apologize!! You didn't mention Hawaii, and you got responses about New England and Norway!

LoveItaly Oct 26th, 2004 06:50 PM

Geeez, another grumpy poster. And one asking for advise to boot!

Orchid, since you did NOT indicate any location that you were interested in, would it be perhaps nice of you to at least thank the posters that took the time to answer your question?

In my opinion it would be the thing to do.

indie Oct 27th, 2004 08:34 AM

What...you mean you folks can't read her mind..where are those ESP skills people.

LoveItaly Oct 27th, 2004 09:08 AM

We are probably all brain dead from listening and reading the political news, you think?? LOL

TC Oct 27th, 2004 10:59 AM

Come on, Orchid -- you owe the apology. Be a good girl and take your lumps so we can get on with helping you.

Meesthare Oct 27th, 2004 11:25 AM

I suspect Orchid has left the building. Probably out of sheer embarrassment.

Ryan Oct 27th, 2004 11:29 AM

To bad she didn't ask about taking her two-month old whale to Vegas. Now, that'd be a fun thread to read.

Rusty Oct 27th, 2004 12:12 PM

Orca, there is good whale watching in the Bay of Fundy in Canada !

LoveItaly Oct 27th, 2004 12:48 PM

But guess most of you have not heard the latest. Don't know if there is a thread on the Europe board about this yet BUT the exciting news is that in that little lake in Molvania (think it is called Lake Slimy) there is a whale!!!

Orchid might want to check this out.

As for the rest of you, think I would skip this tourist attraction.

Except maybe you Crefloors, you are going to Molvania any day aren't you?

orchid Oct 27th, 2004 05:07 PM

Hi, if it is so much trouble answering nicely, and if it is an inconvenience - don't bother. Amazing how people cannot wait to get in their "digs". There is no need for an apolgy. What on earth for?? What has happened to decency and respect? This board is for people wishing for answers to what they feel are is important to them. If the question is posted on the Hawaii site, New England or whatever does not come into play.

Marilyn Oct 27th, 2004 05:47 PM

orchid, you just don't get it. You may click on Hawaii, but there is no way for the person reading your message to know that you did so. When we read your question, it doesn't say anything about the location, and it appears on the US BOARD. There is NO Hawaii board. Understand? Just look at your question. Where does it say Hawaii?

As for decency and respect, you were the one who got snippy to start with, and you owe the apology to Keith.

travelinandgolfin Oct 27th, 2004 05:55 PM

As posts such as this are bad for me, ;) I'll just make this very short comment....

orchid, it may be time for some deep introspection. Seriously.....

LoveItaly Oct 27th, 2004 06:33 PM

And didn't salgal respond about whales off on Kauai in February. Isn't that Hawaii? LOL.

Ranger Oct 27th, 2004 06:57 PM

Marilyn> can't say you didn't try huh? *S*

Scarlett Oct 28th, 2004 06:18 AM

orchid, honey, your mama should have taught you to be more polite. Thank you and please work so well, you will be surprised. That anyone even answered your question was enough to be thankful for.
Seeing that you have only posted on Fodors about Hawaii, you might have not learned your way around the site that well, which is perfectly fine and normal. But when you get information or advice from fellow Fodorites, you really should be a tiny bit more gracious.
You will now , I am afraid, have to go find your own whales without our help.
My mama told me a looong time ago, a Smile and a Thank you will go a long way...or You can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar :D

J_Correa Oct 28th, 2004 08:37 AM

Hey Fodors - Can't we get a seperate Hawaii board?

ncgrrl Oct 28th, 2004 09:36 AM

Orchid,

If you posted this under 'Hawaii' it doesn't matter because:
1. All post show up under US
2. You didn't mention WHERE in Hawaii you want to view whales.

orchid Oct 28th, 2004 04:34 PM

I don"t get it - why do so many of you have an attitude??

LoveItaly Oct 28th, 2004 04:49 PM

Orchid, personally I don't get what you don't get!

May I suggest that you reread the post.

But if you are always so rude, even when it has been nicely called to your attention, well IMHO you will never get it.

nytraveler Oct 28th, 2004 05:22 PM

orchid -

Perhaps its not them that have the attitude!

Marilyn Oct 28th, 2004 05:31 PM

OK, I'll try this one more time, sigh.

"Fantastic Keith! You really should pay attention to the location that was requested. New England was not in my question at all.It was HAWAII."

Now I think that sounds snippy and sarcastic (also incorrect), and apparently many others here agree. Maybe you didn't mean it to be. If so, why don't you simply say that? Or are you perhaps one of those people who simply cannot, under any circumstances, admit an error? I'm pretty bad about that myself (my motto is "Not always right, but never in doubt") but even I will fess up when the mistake is this glaring.

TripleSecDelay Oct 28th, 2004 05:40 PM

Wow, you put the kid in orchid.

You've long forgotten, but you were told, early in life, by somebody you respect very well :

"Courtesy may not always be returned in kind, but discourtesy will".

This explains your perception of attitude on this thread.

MelissaHI Oct 29th, 2004 02:47 AM

Wow! I just got home and logged on to find this thread. Orchid, while many posters will poke fun at a vague question, Keith was very polite & sincere in his response to you. That is why people are asking you to apologize to him. There is no mention of "Hawaii" in your original question, so it's hard to tell where you are considering seeing whales. Whales are seen in many parts of the world, not just Hawaii.

This is cyberspace--no one is attacking you personally unless you make it personal.

Ranger Oct 29th, 2004 11:16 AM

I have a feeling orchid is pulling our chains. I could be wrong, but few are this clueless.

TC Oct 29th, 2004 02:21 PM

Ranger, I hate to disagree -- but MANY are this clueless unfortunately.

Marilyn Oct 29th, 2004 02:23 PM

Ranger, click on Orchid's name and read some of her other posts, then get back to me.

Kal Oct 29th, 2004 02:24 PM

:-? I wonder if even this board is suffering from "PEAD"?
Pre Election Anxiety Disorder.

I can't wait for Nov 3rd....or 4th...or 5th...or whenever it will be over!
[(

Marilyn Oct 29th, 2004 02:42 PM

Kal, we mailed our absentee ballots today. Nothing left now but the hopes, fears, and lawsuits.

Kal Oct 29th, 2004 02:44 PM

"hopes, fears, and lawsuits"

3 of the Apocalyptic Horsemen? (:|

LoveItaly Oct 29th, 2004 02:46 PM

Marilyn & Kal, I mailed my ballot in also. So that is done.

Love your description Kal, PEAD, hopefully after Nov 2nd some grumpy posters will get a little more relaxed.

Happy Halloween!

Scarlett Oct 29th, 2004 04:19 PM

Kal, that is what I think, PEAD. Unless that full moon and eclipse has something to do with the crankiness.
