CROCS! Seriously. They weigh nothing, can be worn anywhere (water, street, grass) and can be washed.

Doc Martens.

janewb, zappos is "da bomb" - I've used it before, and I ordered a new pair of work shoes yesterday, and they'll arrive tomorrow!

Clark's sandals, Merrells, and a pair of Propets got me through two weeks in England, including a lot of walking around.
For you Crocs fans, they're coming out with a line of dressier leather Crocs in a variety of styles. I saw them at http://www.shoesonashoestring.com Lee Ann |
I wear SAS walking shoes because I have bad feet caused by wearing good-looking shoes in my younger, more fashion-conscious days. I have to wear orthotics or I get plantar fascitis, and my heel then hurts too much to be walking any distance. I also have a pair of Rockport sandals that are very comfortable.
I have Eccos, but the leather is stiff enough that they're never comfortable for any length of time. |
I purchased a pair of "Wolky's" from the Zappo's website before I went to Europe a few years ago. I wanted comfort, support, and fashion. The fashion part was on the low end of the scale, but better than others I had considered. This particular shoe was actually a leather sandal.....I think they're made in Amsterdam....the thick rubber sole is covered with cute little tulips (that last statement was intended to be just a fun little piece of trivia.....I'm sure the tulips have nothing to do with the comfort of the shoe) :) :) Have fun checking out all of the recommendations!

In any weather when I can wear wool or nonsummer clothes I wear Ferragamo loafers. They are expensive but if one takes care of them they will last for years. I have one pair that are probably over 15 years old. During summer weather I find it is more of a problem but basically Clark's work well. I do have a pair of Coach trainers that are comfortable, I keep forgetting about them however.
But as others here have stated dmlove each person needs a different type of shoe. My feet are slender with a high arch. |
I'm back. I looked at, and tried on, Keen, Privo, Seibel, Tsubo, Merrell, Tivo and others, and ended up with a pair of Ecco Match Ties. I still got some inserts for arch support, but these fit me best. I haven't worn them yet and will keep you posted.
