Urban walking shoes - Poll
 

Just a poll of sorts -- for the women on this forum -- if you love to walk and walk and walk around cities when you travel, what kind of shoes do you wear (assume you're out and about 6 hours or more each day before you can really rest your feet)?

For that I swallow my pride and wear my gym sneakers, either Brook running shoes or Nike Air.

I wear sandals, but realize that doesn't work for most people.

I like sandals too, for summer travel. Naots are my current favorite.

I bought a pair of Kenneth Cole shoes that have the Nike Air technology in them. Theu are super comfy and very cute and don't look "touristy" at all.

I prefer Josef Seibel--have been wearing them for years and take them wherever we go. We walk and walk and walk around cities and my legs tire before my feet do. Also, they wear like iron. Some of my Seibels have been to more places than some people I know. :-)

More votes for Naot's and Joseph Seibels. Munros work well for me also, but I prefer those more in cool weather. I just bought a pair of the Naot Ashley's the day before we left for Paris and I wore them for 2 weeks there...heaven!!!

Ecco styles seem to fit my foot just right and give support in all the right places.

It's such an individual thing, as you see by these replies! Joseph Siebel does not work for me (too short in the toe box). I have one pair of Ecco sandals that look and feel comfortable on my feet, but my knees absolutely kill me if I walk all day. Mixed results with Munro. Geox are good for me.

Dansko clogs - actually i got the tip from the board years ago. I had a foot problem, and this was just about the only shoe that I could stand for extended time on my feet. I live in NYC and do a lot of walking in general, but was in constant agony until I discovered these. I have since had surgery to correct my foot issue, but still love my Danskos (still have the same pair frmo years ago).

I also like a comfy sandal as well.

I agree with Suze -- this is so individual. One thing I have learned in all my travels, feet get bigger after flying, walking or in the heat. So I have shoes for traveling that are 1/2 to a whole size larger than what I would wear at home. I also find the open back shoes give me more room to expand without getting blisters.

I have Chaco sandals, Keene H2Os for summer and a nice pair of Liz Flex black suede or dark green Skeetcher "trainers" for cooler times. None look like something one would wear to a gym. I've also had Josep Seibels and loved them. You just have to find what works for you and looks good with your wardrobe.

Birkenstocks... I never leave home without them!

It's so obvious this is an individual thing. Suze, I can't wear Geox -- they just don't fit me right!

Ecco fit me like a glove, but they're just so darn ugly.

The shoes I've been wearing since I discovered them earlier this year, before my trip to Paris: Skechers Biker Step-ups. Pain free, 24/7.

I wear sneakers (love Asic gel), Josef Seibels (in one European size larger, because of the short toe box that Suze noted), Birks (in a narrow and one European size shorter), Eccos, and Dansko clogs. If I wear sandals for long walks my feet eventually blister. I need to wear socks with shoes if I need to walk for hours.

I have wide feet and threw myself on the mercies of the folks at Harry's shoes on the UWS. I ended up in Finn Comfort shoes. Fantastic.

Assuming it's not winter with snow or sleet - or raining - I tend to wear fashion athletic shoes of some type. either Sckechers Mary Janes or sort of bowling shoe looking things (they're not - but look similar). the latter are comfy and fine for pants, the former also work with Capris or skirts.

If it's chilly or rainy I have cute leather ankle booties with flat or nearly flat heels and ridged rubber soles.

Propet shoes available at footsmart.com. I have flat feet and I can easily insert an arch support in these. They are also well cushioned and some styles are machine washable. My favorite style is the Wash 'N Wear Slipons.

I have a pair of Ecco's that I wore for a week in London, walking around for several hours a day.
