Best accomodations in Yosmeite Valley are at the Ahwhanee Hotel. Don’t know if you can get accommodations there for Sept as many people arrange lodging far in advance for Yosemite. Here’s a link to the reservation concessionaire for Yosemite.

Hotel prices vary by day (date), discounts you may have (clubs, age, etc.) and any hotel specials. Two excellent places you should try are: Ritz-Carlton and Hyatt Regency at the Embarcadero. [I've stayed at both within your price range.]

Sorry, but the AAA rates for the Ritz-Carlton are listed as $545-$745. The Hyatt Regency fits. This is a nice area, by the Embarcadero. We also like the JW Marriott on Mason and Post. Very pretty hotel.
