Things I hate about Vegas

I was just invited on a trip to vegas.

It made me think about the things I hate about vegas.

You can stay at the Wynn and Bellagio, but can't get a coffee maker in your room. I don't want stale room service coffee - I want coffee on my on terms and I don't think I should have to bring my own machine to highend top of the line hotels.

You can stay at the Wynn and Bellagio, but cannot stroll and hang out by the pool. Opens in the morning and shuts down at sunset. What's the point????

I wanna hang by the pool in a lounge chair at night!!!!

What do you hate about Vegas?

bratsandbeer Dec 28th, 2008 07:06 AM

Nothing - I love Vegas.

gyppielou Dec 28th, 2008 07:07 AM

Excellent positive attitude bratsandbeer!

I also hate the pool schedules; it's to keep people gambling during certain hours, I suppose, but how much difference can those people make?!

Vegas is like Miniie Mouse with an STD. Everything is false about the city. New York is next to Egypt which is next to Paris. The entertainment is practiced and expensive.

I went to the Venetian on business and finally yelled at the people in the gondolas, it's fake. You're in teh lobby of a hotel in the dessert.

We ate at one of the restaurants in the erstaz San Marco. I pointed out that where the Jimmy Choo was located was actually where in reality the cathedral is located.

I ordered a steak, since someone else was paying and asked for it rare. When it came out it looked well done. Someone said I should send it back but I demured. The other person called over the waiter. The waiter explained the steak was actually rare but the blue from the painted sky above combined with the red of the steak made it look black. I held up my baked potato and said, "See it is really a french fry."

The cigarette smoke! Hands down, that is my least favorite thing about any casino, for that matter. And yes, higher-end hotels reek less, but they still reek to a non-smoker like me.

All the fakery wears on me, too, but I can enjoy it on its own terms for a 2 or 3 days before I find myself shouting at gondolas.

Losing

Most everything. It's a really boring place. Just as fake as Disney - except for adults.

Have been twice (for conventions - no choice) and wouldn't go back voluntarily.

I hate their marketing slogan, "What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas".

I'm not sure I want to hang out with people who find that slogan an appealing thought.

I've said this before - while I don't think Vegas is for kids, I enjoyed it more with my kids. We had fun riding the roller coaster and showing them the illusions in the casinos. I also appreciated the illusions MORE after seeing the real Venice, Paris, etc.

comment to aduchamp1 - yes we know its all fake, yes we know gondolas shouldn't be in an hotel foyer, yes we know that New York is not next to Paris (not sad enough to know that Jimmy Choo is where the Cathedral should be) but what the heck its fabulous for all that and even because of all that.

With regard to the comments about the pools closing early in Vegas, it depends on where you stay, the higher end hotels seem to close early, but the middle range stay open later, its good to check first, the Suncoast is open till 10pm.

1. I hate the Las Vegas airport, especially the Southwest section.

sf7307 Dec 28th, 2008 10:35 AM

Pretty much everything.

Vegas is a highly contrived marketing experiment on steroids. Every individual is viewed as a pawn for the forces of Vegas to try to manipulate.

Get this, the "bistro" in the Paris hotel served pizza and Dim Sum. What? The TV in my room had no guide available for TV stations. Front desk confirmed they did not provide such.

Vegas is all sizzle and no steak!!

Virgogirl Dec 28th, 2008 09:13 PM

I hate it when I'm strolling with my husband and all those little Mexican guys are shoving handbills advertising callgirls in his face. They're very pushy about it and seem to be everywhere.

We love the buffets and the shows, but it gets pretty boring by the second day.

Little_Man Dec 28th, 2008 09:58 PM

I hated Vegas with my kids. Loved it with just my husband
I agree gyppielou about the great hotel rooms, but no coffee maker! That's why I love staying at the Signature now, and like the condohotels.

I am not sure about that. Have you ever been to a wrestling match? The cheering and concern for their heroes is real. The same in Vegas, many seem to be satisfied with false subsitutes. I have not been to Egypt, but I would prefer that over some marketeer's version of it.

LSky Dec 29th, 2008 12:52 AM

I can't think of anything I like about Vegas. The fakiness doesn't bother me, I expect it.

The cigarette smoke is horrible.

I hate the buffets, it just seems like bad food ready to be wasted.

But the number one thing I don't like about Vegas is when I walked through the casinos, it didn't seem like people were really having a good time. They are like robots fixed on their slot machines, not happy just addicted.

I feel very out of place and out of joy there.

SrFlojo Dec 29th, 2008 10:45 AM

I hate that I have to decide between dozens of fantastic shows. I disdain the restarurant options, both on and off the strip. Sure it snows and rains a lot where I live and in Vegas it seems that the sun shines most of the time. Finally, I am not much of a shopper, yet my dear family always finds some bargains in the shops. Do I want to be there for a week or two, no way! But give me a long weekend with the wife and or friends and watch out fun-meter.

FainaAgain Dec 29th, 2008 10:53 AM

All you Vegas-haters should start a thread "what Vegas hates about us" :))

Why do you waste your feelings on hating something that millions enjoy? Is this because you think this city deserves your attention?
