The Wine Country is shaking

Who felt the 4.7 magnitude earthquake? Centered near Glen Ellen at just after 8:00 pm.

SAB Aug 2nd, 2006 07:24 PM

Felt it in SF--figured it was in the 4 range.

FainaAgain Aug 2nd, 2006 07:24 PM

Downtown San Francisco: it felt stronger, like 5.0. My whole apartment building was moving. Or at least it felt so. Nothing fell.

On TV they've started talking about this quake maybe 10 minutes later, channel 7 abc and 4 nbc.

LLindaC Aug 2nd, 2006 07:35 PM

to heck with the residents....did any bottles break?

TAW Aug 2nd, 2006 07:35 PM

I'm in San Jose and DID NOT feel it...I usually freak out when I do feel them...

FainaAgain Aug 2nd, 2006 07:43 PM

LOL Llinda!

Yeah, Razzle, this was a valid question!

All right, I got scared enough for everybody else :)

Scarlett Aug 2nd, 2006 08:34 PM

LoveItaly was emailing to me when she said the floor rolled !!
Now stop it, you hear!!

LoveItaly Aug 2nd, 2006 08:51 PM

Hi all, yep I was emailing dear Scarlett when the floor starting rolling! Than a few minutes later my daughter called..she hates earthquakes, lol.

Anyway evidently there is no damage or injuries thank goodness. My grandmother and her parents and sibilings were in the 1906 SF earthquake, so I sort of "roll with the punches" so to speak. Hi Scarlett!

cabovacation Aug 2nd, 2006 08:57 PM

Didn't feel it this time. Razzledazzle, you live the exciting life up there!

Scarlett Aug 2nd, 2006 09:11 PM

:D

We were in Santa Rosa at Third Street Ale Works and people sitting on the patio mimicked being on a roller coaster ride. ....ah we are so casual here!

A 4-pointer plus is a good size "starter" earthquake, for tourists and new residents - strong enough to really experience it but not massively destructive or terrifying. Any visitors care to comment with impressions?

Myself, I was lounging post-dinner with the cat (who gave no indication whatever). The wall next to me jiggled, stopped, then there was one hard jolt. You know, the scariest thing about most quakes is not knowing how bad it's going to be. Last night's tremors could have been the first moments of a much larger, longer quake. You just don't know as it's happening.

FYI, a pal who lives directly across Sloat Blvd from the San Francisco Zoo said that the howler monkeys and the peacocks were going ballistic right afterward.

P_M Aug 3rd, 2006 09:22 AM

Geez, first the heat in CA, then the quake. Your state s/b renamed Shake and Bake.

:-D

But on a serious note to my CA pals, please be safe.

FainaAgain Aug 3rd, 2006 09:33 AM

"shaker's raisin martini", anyone?

LoveItaly Aug 3rd, 2006 09:59 AM

That was good P_M!! I read there was a small aftershock but I didn't feel that. Probably Razzle did.

FainaAgain Aug 3rd, 2006 10:22 AM

Last time I checked the news yesterday, 3 aftershocks around 2... how do they measure those? 4.4 of what?

MBnancy Aug 3rd, 2006 10:37 AM

I was IMing my son who lives in Glen Ellen around 10 PM and he didn't mention a thing about an Earthquake there. Must be he isn't fazed, as he was raised in SoCal. :-!

Kal Aug 3rd, 2006 10:42 AM

Sorry Faina...that was me and Mrs Kal. :-"
