We ARE looking for something non-traditional, not a turkey dinner. If we were looking for tradition, we'd just stay at home! <BR> <BR>You're right, it is an incredible city, not just for the casinos....I know quite a few people moving there--realtors, communications professionals, engineers, etc. Not quite the stereotypical "bubbas" Fred seems to be thinking of.

Melissa..if you can stand a couple more choices from another "local"..try the buffet at Mandalay Bay..is super! As is the Seafood Buffet in the Masquerade Village at the Rio. Enjoy Las Vegas...I know we who live here do.

I've got the solution to resolve this acrimony! Why don't all you LV lovers go/stay there and leave the rest of the country to us? (I say that know the Fodors will not create a separate LV forum and spare the rest of us!)

I just happen to have done exactly the same thing last Thanksgiving with my kids. Stay away from the buffet lines and make the day an event at the Excalibur Knights dinner Show. The menu is chicken,(no one complained) and the show is perfect for the family. They have two seatings so the late seating would be perfect...and to everyone else that posted here...be nice.

Bubbas come in all shapes and sizes and educational backgrounds. But, they are still bubbas. They are moving to Las Vegas because it is a cheap place to live and they have plenty of mobile home parks from which to choose....

Oh, and the Bubbas AREN'T the ones who abide by boring and fattening traditions by staying at home with family you don't want to see gluttoning themselves til ad nauseum til the game comes on and fall asleep in the couch? <BR> <BR>Melissa, you got it right to do something so UNAMERICAN as have a choice in what to do. <BR> <BR>Speaking of suicides, the largest % happen the day OF Thanksgiving to the day AFTER New Years. I politely differ with the Rio, and the Seafood Buffet @ the Rio. It really is not very good anymore. Maybe years ago but not now. in fact the Rio has gone down considerably. Paris, the Bellagio...much better.

Now, if only Fodor's would create a separate forum just for Las Vegas, the rest of us would be very happy!

WOW! This has been so amazing, just watching all the posts here. Went to the discussion boards suggested, and they were REALLY helpful. Thank you so much! <BR> <BR>I guess it gets hard to narrow it down to just a few choices--Vegas has become such a huge destination for people of varying interests (not just gambling!) that the options of high-quality dining, lodging, and attractions are vast. Those negative posters either have not been to Vegas in decades, or have stayed in the wrong places!

No, Melissa, it's quite the opposite. We've been to LV. But, we've been to a lot of other places as well. And, after going to all the other places, LV pales by comparison.

Sorry, I meant "stayed in the wrong places *in Las Vegas*." I'm not saying Vegas is the TOP destination for everyone, but that it's a good one.

Gotta add in my 3 cents. <BR> <BR>I've been to top restaurants in San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, Seattle, Phoenix, Scottsdale, Honolulu, Reno, Las Vegas, Chicago, St. Louis, Kansas City, New Orleans (ah, New Orleans), New York, Baltimore, Orlando, Miami, Charleston ... <BR> <BR>And IMHO, Vegas ranks in the top 2 or 3 cities where food is concerned -- sometimes it's pretentious, but as far as presentation and flavor are concerned, they do it as well there as anywhere else I've been. <BR> <BR>It's my favorite city -- huge choice of restaurants, rooms are excellent and affordable, service is top-notch (everybody calls me "sir"), entertainment runs the gamut from the ridiculous to the sublime; and no matter what time of day or night, there's always something to do. <BR> <BR>Plus, you can always go walking and gawk at the silly tourists as they take videos of the guy with the parrot on his shoulder. <BR> <BR>So there.

Craig-Why don't you travel outside the US and then compare LV restaurants. And to the rest of you who thinks LV is so wonderful, you need to travel to other places. It might open your eyes as to how tacky LV really is.....
