Sorry, I mean I would definitely NOT spend the time in Texas.

If you are sure that you want to drive from LA to TX, I would suggest that you take the northern route. The southern route (out of San Diego) takes you through the desert & the sandstorms there are treacherous. There is so much to see between CA & TX, that I would plan to take my time. Be extra careful of the heat in Texas as it can become dangerous quickly, particularly if one isn't used to dealing with it. Do you have a general idea as to what you would like to see? We should be able to help you out & maybe save you some time. I was born & reared in Houston but think San Antonio is the hottest place in the world-although I love it there.

Whoops! Should have said, "drive from CA to TX."

Although I love my home state, I agree that a week in Galveston is too long. There are better beaches around South Padre if you are determined to specifically visit a Texas beach. I do like Moody Gardens in Galveston though. I have such trouble believing you would leave the awesome beaches of California to come to our pathetic versions of tropical paradise.

Bashing over, there are still plenty of terrific things to be done in Texas. I'd just pick a California beach over ours anyday.
