Wow! Cooke City is SO small, I can't believe there are that many places to eat. I only remember seeing 2!

There was a big fire in the mountains up above Red Lodge this last week, near the ski area. I imagine they have it out by now and hopefully it didn't get too big to destroy too much beauty.

We were watching the fire with great interest, Dayle. Always frightening to see how swiftly they can move. We leave in just about a month for this long awaited trip! And just think, next year Park City!

Hmmm, why do I want to say the Log Cabin Cafe is 'the place?' That's my best guess!

This is a website from 2006, but it shows the road of Beartooth Parkway.
We visited Yellowstone the week of June 15-22, 2007 and drove to Cody and then to Red Lodge, MT.
Stayed at the Comfort Inn and drove back to Northeast gate of Yellowstone the next day.

We fell in Love with Red Lodge. The Beartooth Parkway took us 4 or 5 hours just driving and looking. It was absolutely gorgeous in the middle of June.
While on Beartooth we stopped at a beautiful view and talked with some people from Wheaton, IL. They were Todd Beamer's school teachers from childhood. Small world. If anyone knows them, tell them "Hi, from Beartooth in the snow".

We just had our first snow today!!! Thankfully it was high, above 8,000 ft. I just finished dragging all my flowers into the house for overnight.

As far as the UT forecast goes, it's supposed to gradually warm over the coming week, back up to normal, and stay dry. Montana and Yellowstone probably will be nice. Fall colors should be starting.

We rode the Beartooth on our motorcycle and I would have to rate it as one of the top three rides I have ever done.

We spent the night in Red Lodge and I can't recall the name of the motel, but it is directly x the street from a bowling alley on the outside of town.

The food in the bar in the bowling alley was excellent. The prime rib was awesome and the pitchers of margerrites were $6.

Huckleberries were ripe and plentiful when we were there (in GNP) 3 days ago. The one hike we did without a ranger (scheduled for a ranger-led hike but she or he did not show up) was very frustrating because the person leading wanted to stop and gorge on huckleberries, and most of us were worried about the bear habitat.

We had snow-sleet at the higher elevations in GNP last week, but the forecast is for warming.

Dayle, was there new snow in the Wasatch and maybe early skiing this year??

Enjoy your trip. Huckleberries near Red Lodge are on the trail to Glacier Lake although you may not want to venture on this one. If you do, they can be found on the lower switchbacks. The trail is steep to the Lake and you'd need a 4 wheeler to get to the trailhead. Keep that hike to Rainbow Lake in mind, it's beautiful. Oh...Bears like berries!!LOL.

Thanks! John, I have your hikes printed out for the trip...and the advice about the bears is good. Enzian, I can be a bit like your standin leader...gorging on berries! Dayle, we see snow in the forecast for the mountains near Red Lodge. Maybe I can try out snowshoeing...don't get much chance around Pinnacle. And James, $6 for a pitcher of margueritas...gotta check it out.
