Shanghainese - We got in at just after 11PM. That would be pretty hard if you're coming from the East coast. You have to look around a bit to find a place to stay that first night in such a sleepy little town. Most don't stay open that late. We stayed at a bed and breakfast that didn't mind us coming in extra late.

Billy,

Slap me if I am wrong, but I don't think 737's are certified by the feds for flights to Hawaii.

ATA and Aloha (if not others) use 737s between Hawaii and the mainland.

Color me slapped.........

Now I know why I only fly Hawaiian Air to the islands.

jamal,

You look good in slap!

Yes, these 737-800s are looonger and carry more fuel than the 737s of yore. They actually hold almost as many passengers as a 757!

Thanks, Holly, we are staying at the Bay House for 3 nights, (Arts & Orchids is full), still trying to figure out if we want to stay at Hilo Hawaiian for the rest of the 2 nights, wish it was the other way around.

Flying into Honolulu but need to take interisland flight to Kauai. ATA does not have a direct flight on the day I am flying. Can I check luggage all the way through or do I need to pick up & recheck in. Trying to decide on time of interisland flight & which airline might be best for luggage checkthrough. Any ideas? Mahalo

I think you should be able to check your bags all the way through to final destination, Bons. This past October, we flew from ABQ to HNL on AA and then onto Maui and are bags went all the way to MAui without us touching them.

Be sure you have enough connection time in HNL for bags to get on interisland flight.

Hope this helps...

Bons - I may be misreading your post, but if you're flying ATA to HNL and then taking another airline to Kauai, check to make sure ATA has an interline agreement with the other airline. SW does NOT, which would mean you'd have to claim and recheck your bags. Since ATA is part of SW, they may not either, but I'm not sure of that.

Debi - I was wondering if you were able to check through since AA does have interline agreements. Just a thought.

DebitNM May 11th, 2007 11:18 AM

d -good point, not sure. We flew on Aloha from HNL to OGG and did run into some schedule issues with changes arrival times due to AA flight changes. As I booked all 3 interisland flights myself, AA didn't want to absorb the cost for changing departure time. Got it taken care of, but not without a few calls.

Bons, call airline and ask.

I called ATA, which I avoided doing before posting because i knew I would get a faster reply here, but they amazed me. Picked up on first ring after getting through the voicemail selections! They do have an agreement with both Aloha & IFly Go, which were the 2 flights I was interested in. Since I don't have to claim bags, is 1hr enough time to make interisland flight?

DebitNM May 11th, 2007 12:57 PM

Personally 1 hour is calling it a bit close. You have 2 flights before hand and it each one is a bit delayed...

Aloha has lots of flights, try for one with a bit more time inbetween would be my suggestion. I hate to worry about missing connection or having bags not make next flight IMHO

Bons May 11th, 2007 02:28 PM

I was afraid of that, & the next flight gets me into Kauai later than I want. So, I switched flight to the day before, direct flight arriving 8:30pm. Now I need a hotel for 1 night before shopping & heading to condo in Princeville. Any suggestion? I will do a separate post, but thought you might have an idea. Mahalo!

DebitNM May 11th, 2007 03:07 PM

Bons,
I suggest you start a new thread asking about where to stay for the night. I haven't been to Kauai sorry, I' no help on that but many on here have been and will be able to provide suggestions.

Thanks Debi, I already did. I appreciate your suggestions about the flight. It convinced me to go a day earlier and fly direct. You can't go wrong with a few extra hours in paradise!
