Sushi in NYC
Heading to NYC next week. Need a recc for sushi - I know here it's inherently expensive, but any ideas for something not too expensive? Doesn't matter what part of the city.

Poke on the UES (residential area) is very good and moderate compared to other places of the same quality. No reservations, no credit cards, byob

I'm particularly fond of Japonica on University Place. It's medium-expensive and quite good. But no reservations, and I believe they take only Amex.
But there are myriad sushi restaurants in NYC, both good and quite appallingly bad. If you want to find a place in the neighborhood where you are staying, there's probably a really good place within walking distance. It's not necessary to travel for good sushi in NYC. |

A very nice Japanese restaurant is Hatsuhana at 48th and Madison. Their sushi is quite expensive, but they also have an interesting dish called, "box of dreams" for around $40. Not cheap but very high quality ingredients with a nice presentation in a great setting. Check out the food gallery on their website for a picture of this dish, http://www.hatsuhana.com/ , something to consider in NYC.

I love this place called Avenue A sushi in the East Village. It's on Avenue A betwen 6th and 7th Street on the west side. They have disco balls inside and a 2 for 1 happy hour till 7 PM. It is totally not expensive and DELICIOUS!!! Best sushi ever.
