Regarding Mackinac Island - you could rent the movie "Somewhere In Time" with Christopher Reeves & Jane Seymour. It takes place in the 1800's on Mackinac Island at the Grand Hotel. Never been there myself, but after seeing the movie, would love to.

Never done this myself, but I always thought renting a sailboat down the coast (either east or west) would be quite fine. I think you can get ones with a crew or without.

Michelle - Mackinaw Island is perfect I live in Michigan and its quite nice in May. Went for our anniversary there two years ago. In June and July it gets a little more crowded. The island is Eight miles around. Alot of secluded areas and nice walks. The weather is usually in the mid to high 70's. To get to the island you take a ferry over from Mackinac City. If you fly to Michigan the nearest airport is Pellston but many fly into Traverse City another beautiful beach town nearby with golf resorts etc. On the island the most luxurious resort is the Grand Hotel. For me its a little stuffy though. Mission Point is still considered an upscale resort without the stuffiness. The rooms are very nice and beds VERY comfortable with down featherbeds. Whereever you decide GOOD LUCK! Me and my hubby are still trying!

Michelle,
What ever happened?!? I hope all is well. I stumbled upon this thread searching for lighthouse bed and breakfasts; now, I'd love to hear what you decided.

This post is from the Clinton Administration era.
Doubt Michelle's still hanging around on a daily basis.

Michelle probably has 3 or 4 kids by now.

While staying in Austin, Michelle and her husband stopped at a Stop and Shop, bought some cigarettes and on impulse, a Lottery Ticket.
The won the lottery and moved to Europe where they own vineyards and have 6 children.
You can buy their wine is some of the better wine stores here in the US..

The Southern California coast is aweful in June and the beginning of July...and yes, I live here.
I agree with sedona. Alma de Sedona Inn. Gigantic whirlpool bathtub, private patio, awesome views, great breakfast every morning...perfect.
