Speaking of expensive Broadway tix ...

Did anyone see this article in the NYTimes about people taking their *little* kids to Broadway shows??

http://www.nytimes.com/2006/12/07/th...broa.html?8dpc

The photo on the front page is of 21 mo old twins at a show. As the mother of a 2 yr old, I can't imagine taking a 21 mo old to a Broadway show!!

I've had a moment's thought about my 4 yr old, but it quickly passed. Especially at those prices!

<""“There are mothers breast-feeding in the audience,” said one usher at the Minskoff Theater, where “The Lion King” is playing. “Going to the theater has changed.”"">

Holy $hit!

While maybe I could see taking a child at age 6 or 7 to a show, anything younger seems like a big waste of money. The people that supposedly "want to expose my 2 or 3 year olds to Broadway" clearly don't appreaciate the attention span of a child that age. It almost seems like the parent wants to be there and the child is their "prop." As a mother of a 6 month old there is no way in the next 3 years that I would attend a Broadway musical with him to "expose him to the arts."

I can't imagine spending $125 for a ticket and being forced to sit in front of you. I hate that there are more and more rules and laws - but it used to be that people had common sense. That is no longer the case and they need to just ban infants and toddlers from Broadway shows. I sat next to a couple of children at Avenue Q. Completely innappropriate for them.

That is really nuts.

Nuts is the right word. The article really turned me off when I read it this morning. Why any parent would think it's okay to take a 21-month-old child to the theater is beyond me! Whether one can afford it is not the question!

I wonder what makes a mother of a 21-mo-old drug him to a stuffed indoor room to confine him to a seat for 2 hours instead of letting him move around in a park breathing fresh air?

drag not drug LOL this is what happens when work interferes

Children at Avenue Q? Yuck. Grown-ups in our party were blushing. I thought it was hysterical, though.

Uhhhh..have ANY of you read the posts which are numerous about taking "toddlers" and even younger kids to Europe???? Going to a Broadway show is cheap in comparison and I'll bet those kids don't even kick the seat backs.

Discalimer - I don't have any kids. Just wanted to mention a word about the prices: If it's too expensive, see http://www.broadwaybox.com for some sweet online discounts, along with listings, reviews, seating charts etc.
