I just had to take this one to the top, even though it's winter, my mouth is watering after reading all of these posts. I want to thank Ernie and Sabrina for bringing back a wonderful childhood memory - Jaxson's Old-Fashioned Ice Cream Parlor in Dania Beach, FL. As far as the best in R.I., it's Gray's in Tiverton, hands down.

I would have to go across country to Tillamook, Oregon at the Tillamook Cheese Factory to have the best ice cream I've ever had. Very creamy. The best mint chocolate chip ice cream I have ever tasted.

This is a great place to check out personal favorite ice creams. I am an ice cream-aholic!! :) I will definetly remember the most repeated favorites. <BR><BR>My all time favorite is the Haagen Das Rum Raisin...I know I Know ...it's a freezer ice cream. I do want to let those know if anyone stops by in Utah...in Logan where Utah State University is they have the BEST ice cream that I have tasted in my lifetime...they have an agriculture program...so everything is fresh and homemade!!! Those of you like Butter Pecan, Peppermint, or any types of cheesecake flavors....are the best from USU!!! <BR><BR>Those who have said Kimballs is a great place...its true!! Although, I never been to the Kimballs in Littleton, Ma; there is also a Kimballs in Jaffrey NH...which is exceptionally yummy!! (NOTE: Baby sizes are about pint sizes!! ).<BR><BR>Couple more...the Edy's Girls Scout Thin Mints and Turkey Hill Southern Lemon Custard (I think it is called)...are wonderful ones too...unfortunely you have to LOOK for it because they are the "special edition" label Ice creams. YUMMMY... <BR><BR>I will continue to look out for more posts on Ice creams!! :)

The peppermint stick at the Whistlestop in North Falmouth is the best I have had in years. Big chunks of peppermints sticks that I am tempted to save like I did as a kid with HoJo's. Why are all the ice cream places closed in the winter?

I'd kill for a piece of Hula Pie from Duke's or Keoki's.

Second vote for Hula Pie!!!! Also - love Oberweis shakes & chocolate peanut butter ice cream. I am pretty certain that they are only in the Chicago area though.

My all-time favorite soft ice cream place is what used to be called the Shimerville Drive-In (and now has another name). Located outside Emmaus, PA, in the triangle where route 100 becomes Rte 29 (going into Emmaus) and Rte 100 goes off to Macungie. Real non-Amish Pennsylvania Dutch ice cream. The benches may be peeling, but the view is great. The first time I took my husband there, I got him a large "twist" cone and asked what he thought. The answer: tastes like More. FYI, the rule is the dog gets the last bite of your cone &lt;g&gt;. Also, if you're poking around the area, stop by the Vera Cruz tavern, which bills itself as "probably" the oldest tavern in the Lehigh Valley and dates back to the mid 1700s. THE locals hangout for 250 years!

1. Cabot's Ice Cream in Newton Centre, Mass....especially with their milk chocolate based mellow (hot) fudge.<BR><BR>2. Brown's in York, Maine across from Nubble Light.

For grocery store ice cream, I have a new favorite: Turkey Hill mint chocolate chip -- it is the best I've ever tasted. The mint is really minty, and the chips are dark chocolate slivers and there are lots of them. Edy's used to make the best, but they changed it and now it's not as good (the chocolate pieces are larger but there aren't enough of them, and the mint tastes more creamy than minty). Baskin Robbins also makes a very good mint chocolate chip, which for some reason seems to taste best in the form of a milkshake.<BR><BR>I do miss the Steve's that used to be in Ann Arbor when I was in college -- I used to love their vanilla with M&Ms mixed in by hand, and their hot fudge was great too.

There was within the past month an article in the Chicago Tribune about how Oberweis is planning to expand into neighboring states. They have expanded home delivery into Missouri. I go to the Park Ridge location and it is very good but nothing compares to Magic Fountain in Mattituck, New York (my original hometown). Some may say that I am biased since I worked there for 5 years but I have never had ice cream that good anywhere (one of the reasons I continued to work there!). Everything is homemade and even the soft ice cream is real ice cream and not custard or "Carvel". The original owner sold it it the mid-90's to retire permanently to Florida (yes, that is why it was closed most winters) but the new owners retained the same manager who still makes the ice cream by hand using the same recipes. Anyone vacationing on the North Fork of Long Island should definitely stop in for a delicious treat (and it is worth the drive over from the south shore!). Also, way back in this post someone mentioned Ithaca, NY but did not list the Cornell Dairy Barn which is hands down the best ice cream in Ithaca.
