I inherited a lounge suite from my parents who both smoked. I had it recovered and could still smell the smoke!!! I could smell the smoke for many years until I got rid of the suite.

The Jean Nate has probably gone off because it is so old and that is why it stinks.

Marriott hotels have been 100% non-smoking since 2006 or 2007.

A lot of hotels have adopted a no smoking policy for the whole hotel. However, the rooms that were smoking before still reek of smoke. Unless everything has been replaced and painted, it is smoky.

I got one of these rooms when I checked into a hotel late. Of course it was the only room. Sometimes opening the window is not an option. In this particular room the window would only open about 2" which was not sufficient.

That was posted back in 2007 so explains why 'two years' ago (2005) smoking was allowed. :)

Hilton hotels and it's family of chains (Hampton's, Conrad's, Homewood Suites, etc) always has a smoking/no smoking sign right next to the room description so I'm not sure why you're having a hard time finding the info.

This isn't a problem at the places I book--they always have non-smoking rooms, and that's what I want. These days it isn't easy to find room for smokers except in places such as Arizona and Las Vegas.
