Yes, I need to learn how to be professional. And how to be kind to my employees.

>:-)

Kal Apr 13th, 2007 12:20 PM

Ahemmmm...Uhhh...Mels...you DO know what a "Pro" is, yah? :-?

MelissaHI Apr 13th, 2007 03:46 PM

Does that mean Faina will teach me how to be a Pro?????

Kealalani Apr 13th, 2007 03:53 PM

Did I ever tell you the time......?

FainaAgain Apr 13th, 2007 03:54 PM

Of course! Dunno in which field, but I must be a pro in something, doncha think?

valeriesgallery Apr 15th, 2007 10:43 AM

Dear Shanghainese:

I would like to RSVP for this fine GTG. I even bid for the day off, and got it!! Count me in!! I'll be there between 6:30-7:00 pm

~:> I may be too chicken to eat the feet, but I'll have to see what else is on the menu!

trippinkpj Apr 15th, 2007 10:55 AM

Melissa- Are you going to be in SF on the weekend (26th/ 27th)? I'd like to meet you and other Fodorites though it's hard for me to get up to SF from San Jose on weekdays (I don't drive).

easytraveler Apr 15th, 2007 11:45 AM

trippinkpj: You live in San Jose!!!???

I live in the Greater San Jose area also. I'll be picking Melissa up at the airport earlier in the afternoon.

Want to ride with me on the 23rd? We'd love to meet more Fodorites! :)

trippinkpj Apr 15th, 2007 11:50 AM

Hi easytraveler! Hmmmmmm, that's a very nice offer. Are you picking up Melissa at SJC or SFO? If you could email me at [email protected], we can discuss further. :-)

valeriesgallery Apr 15th, 2007 11:58 AM

I just googled the Shanghai house and one of the writers said that to get pig's knuckle one must order it a day in advace....$18.95.

Also it said, cash only, fyi. No credit cards.

easytraveler Apr 15th, 2007 03:55 PM

trippinkpj: I've emailed you! :)

valeriesgallery: are you referring to the Examiner review? She sure can write them up! Made me drool for some of those dishes!

Are you in the Bay Area also? Please join us if you can! >:D<

MelissaHI Apr 15th, 2007 07:28 PM

I'm interested in the pig's knuckles. Anyone else? I'll pre order them if anyone else will eat them with me!

trippin--easytraveler is picking me up at SFO. I will be in San Francisco through Monday, May 28 (I leave at 5:15 PM). On Saturday, the 26th, I have an excursion to wine country with some Hawaii friends. Not sure what the plans are for the rest of the weekend--except running errands for snake bile, fo chong, etc.

trippinkpj Apr 15th, 2007 07:32 PM

LOL Melissa. I am going to check back with easytravel, as I may be able to get a few hours off Wed. afternoon (she would pick me up before she picks you up). I'm not sure if that will work out since I'm the newbie at this job, but I will give it a try.

Kealalani Apr 15th, 2007 07:34 PM

but are the pigs knuckles pickeled stewed or jellied????

easytraveler Apr 15th, 2007 08:27 PM

The pig's knuckle's come in two varieties (both have to be preordered)

a) Salt & Pepper Pig Knuckle

b)Pig Knuckle with Brown Sauce (which is the standard "red roasted" Shanghai variety - i.e., stewed in a soy sauce mixture for hours).

The one that Patricia Untermann, food reviewer for the Examiner, tasted was the first one.

Both are $18.95.

There are also a couple of fish (carp) dishes which have to be pre ordered.

Remember that Faina doesn't eat anything associated with that intelligent mammal, the pig. However, I will eat just about anything but chicken feet, duck feet, blood dishes of any kind (no matter how nourishing), and a bunch of other "exotic" delights. So, I'll be happy to share with you, Melissa, as will Shanghainese in most likelihood. Can't speak for the others who will be joining us, so maybe we should hide away at one corner of the table. :)

Have car, will travel.

Will bring my slightly larger car that can seat five, as we have to pick up Faina and Shanghainese.

Oh, boy! Is this going to be FUN! :)

FainaAgain Apr 15th, 2007 08:48 PM

Would you knuck it out :))

If too many people for your car, Easy, I don't have a problem with taking a bus both ways, it's safe for me, and I'm used to it.

easytraveler Apr 15th, 2007 08:57 PM

Heavens, no! Faina!

Someone could ride on TOP of the car - help us through the traffic jam! :)

MelissaHI Apr 15th, 2007 10:58 PM

oooo. I have never had Pig Feet mentioned in #1. Only #2. I'll take it!!!

iceeu2 Apr 16th, 2007 04:19 AM

LOL....Melissa and her foot fetish!! If you go out with the girl, she's gonna bring out some little footsies for you to gnaw on!!!!

Y'all have fun now, ya heah?

FainaAgain Apr 16th, 2007 07:43 AM

Easy, have you been nipping some of that bastardo :)

Shanghainese Apr 16th, 2007 09:18 AM

valeriesgallery: Thanks for mentioning cash only. Ok if I pre-order the salt/pepper pig knuckles? Looking forward to meeting you!

easytraveler: Which fish dish should we pre-order? And thank you for being the driver, remember I'm bring a car and if you drive your smaller one, I can drive Faina and myself.

trippinkpj: Hope you can make it!

easytraveler Apr 16th, 2007 10:21 AM

ISeeYouToo: Thanks for the good wishes! I didn't realize Melissa had such a foot fetish! Maybe the rest of us should bring a fetish or two, just to make this a well-rounded gathering!

Faina: That bottle of bastardo is so large, it cannot be sipped. It must be slugged! :)

Last night we had some Sokol Blosser 2001 Pinot Noir with steak for dinner. I had bought that in Oregon a couple of years ago and was saving it. Darn thing gave me such a headache, it's still here today! (Which is why I keep saying that Oregon has a ways to go before its wines can match the worst of Napa-Sonoma! Prejudiced, aren't I?)

Shanghainese: You're back! So thankful you will be helping Melissa with her knuckles! :)

The carp dishes are:

Roasted Carp with Green Onions

Carp Fish and Turnip Soup

both are $12.95.

There's also a Vegetarian Goose which I'm certain Faina will enjoy.

Patricia Untermann wrote about another vegetarian dish: Bean Curd Puff (Kao Fu) which she enjoyed immensely.

There's also a bunch of hot vegetarian dishes.

Wish I could post the menu for all to see! Let me work on that!

trippin: I'm going to check my email now. Hope there's something from you!

Shanghainese Apr 16th, 2007 11:07 AM

easytraveler: could you direct me to the Untermann review, please?

easytraveler Apr 16th, 2007 11:18 AM

Shanghainese: sho'nuff! :)

If this link doesn't work, try getting into the Examiner website, click on San Francisco, click on Entertainment.

I've just spent the last hour reading her reviews and can't wait to try some of those other SF restaurants!

MelissaHI Apr 16th, 2007 11:59 AM

Here, I shortened the link:

It sounds just wonderful! I love shredded jellyfish, too. I once had it mixed in with Chinese chicken salad for a new twist on texture. yummy!

FainaAgain Apr 16th, 2007 12:23 PM

"Very drunken chicken, vegetarian goose, juicy hunks of wheat gluten, Fried tofu and glass" - copied from that article! I'm sure I'll have a lot to report :))

MelissaHI Apr 16th, 2007 12:28 PM

Faina! Will you be the drunken chicken, or the vegetarian goose? I feel a new nickname for you coming on....

Shanghainese Apr 16th, 2007 12:50 PM

Thanks! easytraveler and Mels, my mouth is watering.

Faina: You can't eat glass ..., your nickname now is glass noodles, tre chic.

Mels: My mom mixes jellyfish with chicken since chicken was cheaper!

FainaAgain Apr 16th, 2007 12:55 PM

I don't need no name-calling :((

I'll be vegetarian chicken if Kal becomes drunken goose :))

FainaAgain Apr 16th, 2007 01:02 PM

Shanghainese, on the contrary:

http://www.kidsrcrafty.com/edible_glass.htm

easytraveler Apr 16th, 2007 03:21 PM

"fried tofu and glass"

OK, anyone having any problems with eating "glass [noodles]", or a vegetable running around pretending to be a goose

or have any other dietary restraints

had better speak up now!

FainaAgain Apr 16th, 2007 03:36 PM

Just on time, taking off in 20 minutes :)

Anything vegetarian will do for me. Any drinks - alcohol or not.

Are you going to order in advance or we'll see the menu first, or how will it work out?

valeriesgallery Apr 16th, 2007 03:40 PM

Hey, sorry it took me so long to get back this post. As you can see, yes it was the examiner. I would "love" to get the pigs feet, but doubt that I'd eat it jellied. (if I do, you can't tell anyone. It just doesn't sound right :)

I am going to be flying space available, since I work in the airlines. Might make a day or two of it.

It will be fun and silly. After I write this, I have to take some time to read what you all wrote. These posts can be hilarious and dizzy-ing to keep up with!!

Shanghainese Apr 16th, 2007 03:56 PM

Faina: We'll only pre-order the pig knuckles and the fish/carp since it's not available the same day. Everything else we can order when we get there.

Have a great trip!

easytraveler Apr 16th, 2007 04:25 PM

Valeriesgallery: Glad you're back! Certainly hope you can catch a ride, just tell one of the passengers they've been bumped off because of an emergency on your part! :) Well, it'll be halfway true, You definitely need a knuckles fix and can't wait!

Shanghainese: do you have a choice of the two pre order fish dishes?

easytraveler Apr 16th, 2007 05:04 PM

You know, Chinese menus are a constant source of entertainment. Pair it with the stereotypical sassy Chinese waitress and you got yourself a real experience!

#26: So is there an un-delicious version?
;)

valeriesgallery Apr 16th, 2007 05:39 PM

easytraveler: I thought I had a lot of time on my hands!! You've got me beat.

easytraveler Apr 16th, 2007 05:40 PM

Or #27: "Drunken chicken (half)"

Are we getting half of a wholly drunk chicken or a whole chicken that's only half drunk? :)

Shanghainese Apr 17th, 2007 07:22 AM

easytraveler: You typed the entire menu?! Wow, thanks so much, do you ever sleep?
