DC has that horizontal look, quite nice from across the river.

CHICAGO PERIOD
|
I think it depends on where you are standing.
Is it sexy from the best possible spot that a professional photographer can find, or is it sexy from an entire region to view from? |
San Francisco and Seattle comes to mind. I need to visit Dallas, LOL.

OK, I'll toot my own horn here, but I think Portland's skyline is positively gorgeous. I've photographed it many times. Start here:

Good one Andrew. And you had the photos to back up the claim! I was sad when we had to cancel our Portland trip in June. :-(

I agree with San Francisco from Suasalito (sp?) but I also eally like San Diego from the ferry dock on Coronado Island.
On a clear night, Las Vegas, coming in from the north, is not too bad either. |
I couldn't find a photo of Minneapolis towering over the banks of the Mississippi but here is a nice one.

NOTHING in the world measures up to NYC. Why? Simple, it's unique.
Lots of other cities have lots of great profiles. NYC will always be #1. |
woodstockguy, I think this thread says in several places near the top that NYC is #1, but now posters are posting about other great skylines.
NEW ORLEANS was so romantic pre-Katrina. I'm too emotionally connected to really think about it like that now. BUT it is still a fabulous sight to see on a cool, clear morning when you top the hump of the twin spans over Lake Ponchartrain driving south on I-10. What a view with that big lake in the foreground and the city in the background! :) |
woodstockguy, unique? Every skyline is unique or we wouldn't be having this discussion.
|
I've seen all the ones mentioned and I think that I would be remiss to say that Chicago's is more panoramic, vast and if you had to decide from outer space- would be IT. Many others are nice but don't have the scale. NYC's is way too packed together to pull off the 21th Century panoramic photo.
The comparisons here are rather strange, because when I think of city US skyline, I think of skyscrapper. NOT US, but Berlin's now is awesome in that same sense. |
Okay, those of you who watched the Steelers/Dolphins game tonight couldn't help but see the stunning nighttime city lights and skyline of my beloved hometown of Pittsburgh when going to commercial! Romantic, sexy, beautiful .... :)
As I've read through the post a couple of times and noticed that the descriptions are not so much what is said, but HOW. That tells me that sexiness (and beauty and romance) - even when talking about a city - is truly in the eye of the beholder, and comes from the heart. |
Love Atlanta, but there's nothing sexy about its skyline IMO.
Miami wins by a mile for sexiest skyline. Sleek buildings on Biscayne Bay with cruise ships going by. It may not be fair to consider the heat, the skin and the Latin culture, but those make it even more sexy in my mind. |
Whenever someone starts a poll like this it's a good idea to add EXCLUDING YOUR CITY. Then we wouldn't be getting Atlanta, Charlotte and Milwaukee in a post about skylines.
|
yabbut, go back and read what JazzyChick wrote. Any reasonable, objective person would have to agree that she was correct.
Hong Kong has the view from Kowloon and the view from Vikkie Peak. That's it. Pittsburgh has the views: BAM! from the bridge, from the Allegheny looking upriver, from Station Square, from the Point, from Mt Washington, from North Side, from the Good Ship Lollipop on the Mon. I think you can even get a decent view from the Hill. |
Any objective person from Pittsburgh anyway
|
Cimbrone, you are right, Miami does have a sexy skyline. :)
|
I have had an opportunity to see most of the skylines mentioned so far in this thread. Hong Kong, NYC, Rio, Chicago, SF, and Shanghai are all in a class by themselves as the grandest and most awe inspiring cityscapes.
I'm not trying to be a homer, but right now as I look out across the bay from my balcony at the Miami skyline, its hard to believe it gets any SEXIER than this. Its framed by blue skies, bay islands, turquoise water, and palm trees. Its rapidly changing too. I see skycranes on at least new skycrapers under construction. Tune into any of the tv shows which feature Miami's Skyline, ie: CSI Miami, Nip Tuck, Miami Ink, or even Miami Vice to check it out. |
oops... 15 new skycrapers under construction
