Paris? Paris Las Vegas, you mean.

The 30 St Mary thing in London is a UXB. A V-2, I think.

The Pittsburgh skyline from Station Square or from Mt. W.

I don't think Charlotte is sexy either.

And one of the worst eyesores in the world has to be the University Tower in Durham, NC. Luckily it's not in the downtown corridor so it's not part of the Durham skyline. Unfortunetly, I drive by the blasted thing everyday.

To take in Durham's skyline, drive north on Roxboro Rd., crest a hill and take in the view of downtown Durham. Sexy, no, but we don't tear down building every year to put up something taller. The tobacco warehouses still reflect the history of Durham.

Chapel Hill, NC doesn't really have a skyline. But drive up 'Historic' Airport Rd. and take in the view of the chapel on the hill among the trees -- that's a view of a million postcards.

Did someone say phallic? Check out the Florida State Capitol Building...

Steel and glass is sexy? Somebody's got a weird fetish....

starrsville Aug 24th, 2006 06:08 PM

I disagree with the premise that the Atlanta skyline is sexy.

No_name Aug 24th, 2006 06:16 PM

I like Denvers.

nytraveler Aug 25th, 2006 07:25 AM

No - Paris France.

Las Vegas is a blot on the earth and gives a bad name to architects everywhere.

Denver.

I'm so old I can remember having cocktails at the Hyatt Regency in Atlanta when it towered above every other building downtown.
No one has mentioned San Francisco. From across the bay it's pretty fantastic. I don't know about sexy. I've never gotten off looking at a city skyline.

My beloved Pittsburgh, PA, with its concrete, brick, steel and glass skyline, built over 100 years' time. It is framed at the bottom by three rivers --the Allegheny and the Monongahela which together form the Ohio. Where the three converge is a large green park and the focal point of the skyline: a large fountain that shoots water up to 200 feet. The best view is when you drive into the city from the Fort Pitt Tunnels and BAM! there is this most amazing, beautiful, jaw-dropping skyline. And at nighttime when the city lights reflect in the waters of the calm rivers, it is truly breathtaking. Many marriage proposals have been made from vantage points overlooking the city....

Neopolitan, I once heard an ode to San Francisco's pre TransAmerica Pyramid skyline. It begans with this alliterative verse:
"Coit Tower, screwing the sky."

CaliNurse Sep 1st, 2006 09:52 PM

oh yeah, For sexiest skyline, my vote goes to NYC's . The first sight of it at night from the George Washington Bridge, takes my breath away (rather, blows my mind) every single time.

How have you missed Boston's skyline? Surely it is the sexiest. The most phallic, hands down Winston-Salem. Cesar Pelli should be shot

Albuquerque is also pretty amazing from a distance approaching from the west. It too rises out of nothing quite dramatically.

I'll second the vote for Boston as well!

Minneapolis as viewed from the high banks of the Mississippi River.

The worst is Houston and LA. Very steril. New York has just too many tall buildings packed together.

pepper131 Sep 2nd, 2006 07:27 AM

Wow!!
I live in a sexy skyline city???
Never really thought about it "that way".

Dukey Sep 2nd, 2006 11:03 AM

Does "sexy" in any way, shape, or form equate with height when it comes to skylines?

AAFrequentFlyer Sep 2nd, 2006 11:06 AM
