Sedona, AZ hotel help needed SOS :)

I wanted to stay at the Sedona Motel - location, price, reviews - everything was right. Everything but... they are sold out!! And our dates are not flexible. And it's Thu-Fri-Sat in October :(

Anyway, I'm looking for something dirt cheap, $100 ideal, no more then $120 - I will pay for 3 rooms, the $$ add up fast!

My question is: what area is better for us, West Sedona or Oak Creek.

3 adult couples, ages 27 and UP, way up :) We'll have a mini-van, fly to/from Phoenix, must see Grand Canyon, and of course drive around Sedona to see the rocks, museums, and what not.

patandhank Aug 25th, 2009 03:39 PM

Dayenu - did you check Trip Advisor for a list of hotels in that area and average prices? I know there is a Days Inn there that may meet your budget but only you know the dates for specific checking.

Dayenu Aug 25th, 2009 07:06 PM

First of all I hope to figure out if I should look at Oak Creek or West Sedona. Cannot see it on TA :(

MichelleY Aug 25th, 2009 08:21 PM

We stayed in the Village of Oak Creek at the Bell Rock Inn. It was OK, nothing fancy. Next time, I would stay in the town of Sedona.

La Quinta Inn and Suites in Sedona is nice and under $100 with free breakfast and wifi too..
Days Inn is ok but only if its the only hotel left in Sedona.
Check Expedia.com
Kings Ransom hotel is another alternative.

Dayenu Aug 26th, 2009 08:00 AM

La Quinta is in Oak Creek - how is the area? Safe? Restaurants around? Flat?

Days Inn is in West Sedona, not in Sedona, how is this area?

Kings Ransom... maybe...

paula1470 Aug 26th, 2009 09:35 AM

Dayenu-I wouldn't worry too much about the area. I personally would pick Oak Creek over West Sedona but I think that what you should really focus on is getting your three rooms at the price you want. If the La Quinta has three rooms for the $100 I would book them right now. Lots of the hotels are already booked for all the weekends in October. La Quinta seems to be a much better hotel than the Days Inn. I believe there is construction going on in some areas. Others would have to comment on that.

Everything in Sedona is within about 5 miles of each other. You have a car so you can drive to whatever area you want. If you don't want to drive for dinner, there is a trolley that goes around town.

I hope Fodor's let me post a reply :) The website is awful today!

Anyway, made reservations for Baby Quail Inn, it looks like in between Sedona and West Sedona, off the highway, Google View shows nice area, close to some restaurants, wooded area, some rocks a bit away, TA reviews are not bad. $95 each room.

If you haven't booked already, I recommend the LaQuinta in Oak Creek. We stayed last year because we had the dog. It was a very nice LaQuinta. The pool and breakfast area were good too. The breakfast was the standard.

Dayenu Sep 4th, 2009 07:44 AM

Thank you, Plan. As I said above, I'm booked. I will try the Sedona Motel later in the month for cancellations, if not, it will be Baby Quail Inn.

ksucat Sep 4th, 2009 08:54 AM

Faina..there are SOOOOO many great hotels in Sedona for under $100..
Baby Quail Inn..yikes..you can do better!!
Plus, they are ripping you off at $95..they have a web special of $85..and that is too much!
We only want the best for you!!!!
La Quinta Inn and Suites is newer and nice for under $100
Best Western Inn and Suites has deals for around $100
How about the Kings Ransom Hotel?
I got the new Hyatt 1 bedroom condo for $99 on expedia!

Dayenu Sep 4th, 2009 09:17 AM

Hyatt on my dates is $262 average :) October 8-11, high season, Thu-Sun Best Western $206, La Quinta is in Oak Creek - kids want Sedona.

Am I making a mistake by not wanting to stay in Oak Creek? Looking for a place where we can walk to a restaurant for dinner and drinks. Don't care to have a pool or views - we'll be on the road most of the days.

Consider the Sky Ranch Lodge. They have garden rooms for $80. Not real fancy, but very clean. Nice pool and spa area. No breakfast, but only a couple minutes walk to the airport cafe, big breakfasts at a decent price.

Faina dear..
Sedona and Oak Creek are right next to each other and I like the La Quinta Inn and suites in Sedona..you can walk to some cafes but Sedona is spread out..you will car it anyway.
Expedia has it for $108 but try www.lqis.com direct

Kokopelli Suites is $129 on expedia..they are nice for a 3 star.
Sky Ranch is at the top of a steep hill..I would go up and see the views and eat at the airport for fun.

Best to you!!

Dayenu-I wasn't too excited about Baby Quail Inn either but didn't want to say much. Not really sure why you are concerned about walking to dinner. Everything is a short ride and the whole Sedona/Oak Creek area is spread out. If you want to walk to dinner you'd want to probably stay in the Uptown Sedona area but I these hotels have a higher rate than you are looking for and are probably already booked. The Baby Quail Inn is about 2 miles from Uptown Sedona. I don't see that many restaurants within walking distance from Baby Quail except Heartline.

The Comfort Inn is close to Tlaquepaque shopping center and there are restaurants there although I am not a big fan of this shopping center.

Unless you have a specific restaurant you want to go to, I wouldn't worry about being within walking distance. Restaurants are all the place in Sedona. I was looking on Yelp and saw Ken's Creekside Grill which is in Oak Creek. I am not recommending this restaurant since I haven't been there but it got decent reviews. Just using this example to point out there are restaurants close to every part of Sedona. I would book instead to get the nicest hotel at the best price. I don't think Baby Quail falls in this category.

paula1470 Sep 4th, 2009 10:39 AM

The Days Inn has 3 rooms available at right around $100 a night. It's in the same area as Baby Quail Inn but gets decent reviews on tripadvisor. There is also a continental breakfast at The Days Inn. I always try to get that because especially with 6 of you that saves quite a bit of money you'd spend on breakfast. The Days Inn is still 2 miles from Uptown Sedona and restaurants but I think it would suit your family just fine.

ksucat Sep 4th, 2009 11:13 AM

remember Faina that a lot of these hotels have a shuttle service and with a couple of dollars to the driver, they are more than happy to drop and pick you up..especially if you've been drinking with your boyfriend, Kal!! :))

Dayenu Sep 4th, 2009 11:23 AM

Well... looks like we better switch to Days Inn. Comfort Inn is sold out on Friday.

MikePinTucson Sep 4th, 2009 02:07 PM

If it is the Days Inn in West Sedona, you will be just about half a mile from one of my favorite restaurants, Dahl & DiLuca. That would be walking distance.

patandhank Sep 4th, 2009 02:29 PM

Days Inn is actually a good choice. Nice views and as Paula pointed out if you have a car finding dining won't be an issue. Things are somewhat spread out in Sedona and Oak Creek.

Have you thought of a bidding on Priceline?
