Seattle in April
Hi,
We're thinking about visiting Seattle in late April. What can we expect in terms of weather? Should we pack sweaters and waterproof shoes? Thanks! |
We've had a beautiful Apirl so far, but rain is always a possibility. Three light layers should serve you well: shirt or blouse, light sweater, wind-breaker or rain shell. Some locals are already wearing T-shirts and shorts.

I don't think waterproof shoes are a must as it rains often and I'm out in sandles, unless you are hiking or something. But definately bring some layering stuff. It's generally in the upper 50's-low 60's. You'll get at least some drizzle so a light weight jacket for that will be good.

I've lived here 16 years and never felt a need for waterproof shoes. It's not *that* wet here. My allergies would certainly appreciate more rain at this point. :)
Real spring weather arrived early this year and I switched to my light jacket a few weeks ago. The rain that we have gotten in the past month has been so light as to be inconsequential. It's been mostly 50s and 60s with some days venturing into 70 territory. There was even a record 80 degree day a couple of weeks ago. That being said, I'd pack for all possibilities. Layers are the way to go, as Seattle weather often does 180s, particularly this time of year. Too bad you're not coming this weekend. It's supposed to be sunny and in the mid to upper 70s. |
I lived in NYC for 30 years where rubber overshoes were an essential for winter. Not so here. A good pair or Rockports or similar will take care of all weather conditions.
