Seattle - HELP!!!! Need siteseeing suggestions
Will be in Seattle for 3 days in July. Please give some siteseeing suggestions.
|
There are so many things to do and see: Space Needle, Music Experience Center, Pike's Place, art museums, Pioneer Square. There are smaller communities worth checking out as well such as Fremont, Ballard, etc. And of course, you could spend one day on one of the San Juan Islands.
|
I agree with the suggestions by anon, but also recommend a drive north to Vancouver. It is a beautiful city and there are a number of places to see the sights. It is a 2 hour drive , but well worth it.
|
With only 3 days for the trip, I'd recommend staying within the Seattle area with a possible daytrip to the San Juan Islands on day 2. While Vancouver is a great city, you can save it for another trip and just fly directly there. It's just too far to fit in when there are so many wonderful things to see and do right there in Seattle.

ANother option would be to head out to Snoqualmie Falls if you want to see a more natural setting. It's within an hour drive of Seattle - just head east on Hwy 90.

Thanks for the tips. Am going to be in Vancouver for 4 days prior to being in Seattle.

RE: San Juan Inlands - will have a car. Should we take that to the Islands or leave behind. What's the best way to get there?
|
3 days in SEA: There is enough to do without trying to fit the San Juan Islands in. If you're looking for beauty, take a ferry over to Bainbridge Island and then drive to the Olympic National Forest. Other things to do/see in SEA: Underground Tour (leaves from Pioneer Square), kayaking at the University of Washington, Museum of Flight (personally, I think it's even better than the one in Washington, D.C.), baseball at Safeco, a day trip to Mt. St. Helens or Mt. Rainier is enjoyable as well. Enjoy your trip here!

I think the boat trip through the locke and tour by where Sleepless in Seattle was filmed was kind of interesting. The Dinner train was fun too, but kind of expensive.
|
For fine art lovers, don't miss the Frye Art Museum. (free)
www.fryeart.org

If you yearn for a beautiful nature walk and a visit to a stately home, then ferry over to Bainbridge Island and go to the Bloedel Reserve.
www.bloedelreserve.org
(reservations required)

Gail - Where does the dinner train go to? Where can I find out more info on the dinner train and boat cruise tours? Thanks.
|
Tina--Okay, I'm not Gail, but...

-For a locks cruise and other cruises in the Puget Sound area, go to www.argosycruises.com.

I couldn't find a Web site for the Spirit of Washington Dinner Train (which I assume is the one she's talking about), but here's a review of it (including a phone number to call) from Seattle Citysearch:

http://seattle.citysearch.com/profile?id=10760888

Hope this helps...
|
Love the idea of going to Bainbridge Island and driving to the Olympic National Park. How far is it to Mt. St. Helens or Mt. Rainer? We are interested in seeing the area - not all the tourist traps!!

Thanks!
|
If you like tours and boats, there is boat tour that goes in the water and on land called the duck tour. I have been the the same tour in Boston and had a great time.
|
Try the short drive over to Alki Beach in West Seattle. It's a nice beach community and will provide you with a spectacular view of the city. Great sunsets in the summer!

Also, if you go to the San Juans, bikes are great way to go. No long wait! Easy ride between Friday Harbor and Roche Harbor.
