Seafood in Seattle.
 

Any recommendations for a good seafood restaurant in Seattle? We will be staying close to the Pike Place Market and would like to be able to walk to the restaurant.

Elliott's Oyster House on the central waterfront. Excellent despite its touristy location.

Etta's, Zoe, or Flying Fish would be my choices.

I believe the place was called Cutters, overlooking the sound in downtown. Great view, great food, and great drinks.

...and Cutter's is adjacent to the west end of Pike Place Market.

If you like a lively atmosphere, Flying Fish is great and it's not far from the Pike Place Market. Price and everything else considered, this would be my choice.

In the market is Tom Douglas' Etta's, which is very good but, IMO, doesn't have a very exciting atmosphere.

Across the street is Cutter's Bay House.

Elliott's and The Waterfront are both good and a few blocks farther away. Of the two, I prefer the more pricey Waterfront.

Oceanaire, near Nordstrom, is another good fish place with a masculine atmosphere.

All of these places are well established and they all offer something that appeals to a lot of people.

There are many other options.

McCormick and Schmicks is ok - though it is a chain, so I would go for something more unique to Seattle. You can get good seafood at most of the restaurants dowtown. We love to go to Shuckers which isn't too far of a walk from the market.

Etta's Seafood for great food. Cutters or Anthonys for decent seafood with a waterfront view.

And if you want a quick lunch or a snack while walking around the Market, check out Jack's Fish Spot. The cioppino is so good!

I prefer the cioppino at Bell Street Diner. At lunch it is served with Caesar salad and a piece of grilled garlic toast for about $11-$12.

For lunch I love Emmett Watson's Oyster Bar right in the Market. It's an old-timey cafe in back, near the Starbucks. Not fancy at all, but great for a mixed fish & chips style basket or a soup something.

Pike Place Chowder is another wonderful place, on Post Alley.

I recently ate at Cutters and thought it was pretty good. Nice view, good selection and an incredible dessert called chocolate volcano.

What I like about Cutters it that it is dependable. The view is great upclose waterfront. It won't be 'inventive' or cutting edge cuisine but fresh and decently prepared, service and presentation not pretentious. (I have had our office Christmas party there and they do great by us.) I like their fish tacos and blue cheese shrimp salad.

Flying Fish in Belltown has some really great soft shell crab, fun ambiance here, also. If you could get a ride over to Alki Beach, Salty's is really yummy with great views from the outdoor patio. Have fun! ***kim*** ((f))

Thanks for all the great, very helpful, advice. Unfortunately, we have time for only two lunches and two dinners. Looks like we will have to toss a coin somewhere along the way!

We managed to arrange dinner at Flying Fish and lunch at Elliot's. The food at both was great. The only downsides were the fact that Flying Fish had no record of our reservation (happily I had taken a copy of the emailed confirmation, so they quickly found a table for us), and Elliot's served me a sizeable chunk of hard perspex in my clam chowder. Coming from NZ, where that sort of thing does not give rise to huge lawsuits, it was interesting to note the immediate denial mode adopted by the manager -- "I have checked our kitchen and that object was not sourced here". The implication that I had introduced it to the restaurant was more offensive than the bit of foreign matter in the chowder!
