You must go to Lady & Sons for the best southern food. You can order the buffet or off the menu. We had the buffet, but I hear the crab cakes are incredible too. We also had a nice anniversary dinner at the Sapphire Grill.

I repeat - skip the Lady and Sons. We did not eat from the buffet but it looked dull and awful. This is just fattening, gross food at an inflated price. Don't waste your time.

With all due respect to Craig, I (and many, many, many others), couldn't disagree with him more regarding The Lady & Sons. If you really enjoy down-home Southern-style cooking, you will LOVE it. Just the fried green tomatoes and hoe cakes are worth the visit!!! (You have to order the tomatoes separately from the buffet.) I love all kinds of food, but for real Southern cooking, this place is the best, IMO, along with Wilkes.
We did not spend anywhere near $100 there, maybe not even half that. Of course, I love sweet tea with that kind of food, not anything alcoholic..... so I didn't have that extra expense. Everyone to their own tastes...... if you love real country, Southern cooking, I'm sure you wouldn't be disappointed. :-) |
I thought Lady and Sons was awful. I like soul food, I like Southern food, but there was nothing that stood out at this buffet. There were few choices to boot. I admit that the impromptu singers were spectacular.
Sadly, I was in Savannah for less than a day and spent my dinner time at Lady & Sons so have no other recs for you. |
I agree that Garibaldis was very noisy upstairs. The room is gorgeous, a ballroom with high high ceilings, but it was loud.
Downstairs is quiet and dim, much nicer, make reservations ahead of time for that room. There was a good place on River Street that we had lunch, I think it is the River Street Grill? I want to go back to Savannah when it cools off, so much to see and walking is the best way to see it all. |
Although not upscale, we loved Mrs. Wilkes Boarding House (lunch only).
Perhaps this is an alternative to Lady and Sons. Food was delicious and prices ridiculously low. Great fun experience. |

Where did you purchase your house? 2nd vacation home or did you move there? We also love Savannah, and would love a "winter" home there but would need to be much more affordable than the downtown real estate prices! |
Another vote for Lady and Sons. Also like Wilkes Boardinghouse, and I think you won't like Wilkes if you don't like Lady and Sons. They both have good old South cooking, and I think some people just don't like that kind of food. My family thinks it is wonderful.
