Sardy House in Aspen
 

Originally booked to stay at St. Regis but decided to switch to Sardy House. I want something more intimate. In addition, St. Regis is sitll undergoing some renovation. Can some one please command on Sardy House?

We have not stayed at the Sardy House, but we've eaten in its restaurant. It's a beautiful old Victorian in downtown Aspen. Judging from the well-kept lobby and the nice restaurant, I'd guess the hotel is just as nice. The Hotel Jerome next door is even better, but it's probably much more expensive. You'll love Aspen.

Thanks for your input. How about Sardy House vs. Little Nell? I know it probably is a no brainer for most of you (Little Nell of course!), but for some reason (based on the pictures from its website), I don't find it especially unique and attractive. I know Little Nell is known for its outstanding service, and I am a big fan of that. We've always preferred the Four Seasons. My impression of the Sardy House is that it provides very good services as well and it is a bit more unique and secluded. Any comment?

It depends on what you want. Little Nell is more 'Hollywood' -- it's newer, and glitzy. You'll see lots of Hummers, and other very high end vehicles. Its lobby is very upscale, classy-- so are its tenants. On the other hand, Little Nell could be a five-star hotel anywhere. The Sardy House is more 'Aspen,' in my opinion. My own personal preference is to stay in places that have a local flair, which would be the Sardy in this case. Or, like I said, the Hotel Jerome is our favorite. It's an historic landmark, excellent service, good restaurants. Actually, you can't go wrong. Just a matter of personal taste.

P.S. You mentioned "secluded", but none of the three hotels we've discussed are secluded. They are all in 'downtown' Aspen.

I think she said "intimate" rather than "secluded" and I would call the Sardy House intimate based on size. I ate there years ago and wasn't impressed, kind of found it shabby in comparison to the restaurant at Little Nell but that was some time ago so hard to compare. I know the Sardy House has changed to a fractional ownership arrangement so things may be totally different these days.

I have nosed around the Little Nell and the St. Regis on many occassions and would love to stay at either hotel. Although large they come across as very low key and cozy.

I think the Hotel Jerome would be a step between the small intimate Sardy House and the two larger hotels. I have a friend who stayed there early winter last year and was really impressed with the level of service she received.
