Again, not a private room, but you might take a look at Kokkari, wonderful upscale Greek place.

I feel like Santa - checkin my list and checkin it twice. Yes, I checked them all! The party of 20 grew so La Mar was then out, Epic Roast House booked, Perbacco booked, One Market too expensive, Absinthe booked, Slanted Door, Tommy Toys too expensive, Postario available, Scalas available, Lulu's...was ok but wine list was...well, not very extensive. So, drum roll please, the guys have decided on Scalas. I also checked on Incanto and it was within budget but guys wanted someplace they can walk to from the hotel.

I did come across a couple of websites that might help others trying to find a venue for a group. One was San Francisco Private Dining Venues:

You can sort restaurants by number of people in your party or even view.

www.Yelp.com also has a filter you can use to sort restaurants as well.

Thanks for your good thoughts and help. I'll let you know how it goes.

I'm sure they will enjoy Scala's. Their gnocci is sublime! (that spelling doesn't look right, but I'm sure you get the idea).

FYI The dinner was very nice. They put us in The Wine Cellar which could seat about 35 people. Ceasar Salad, Raviloi (4 ravioli, two sauces), choice of entree - I had their signature salmon with buttermilk potatoes (filet, or lamb were the other choices), and dessert which was a yellow cake, custard sauce, chocolate sauce (very yummy). Wines were excellent as well.

Thanks for letting us know. Would you recommend it to others?

Definitely. Our guests were impressed and enjoyed the ambiance, food, and wine.
