Since we don't know how many of us are coming for sure. lets just all go to the pacific catch at noon, if they don't take reservations, we can wait. They will be having Hawaiian music that day. It will be nice. Let's stay there.

easytraveler Jul 25th, 2007 06:48 PM

Ditto on Faina's answers:

any

any

any

Pacific Catch is fine. Any place is fine. Although I heard that Pacific Catch was featured as an intro ad when the iphone came out and they was swamped! We should therefore plan tactics and strategy on getting all the seats that we will need.

OK, I'll post again when the time's closer or maybe one of you will remember. Have a great GTG! (Hi, easytraveller--DH is going to lawschool at Pace in White Plains, so I'm going to NYC in Oct., but will look forward to SF in Nov.)

artlover Jul 25th, 2007 08:39 PM

sorry, I meant DD!

easytraveler Jul 25th, 2007 10:49 PM

Hi, artlover!

I know where White Plains is! One of the salesmen in a company I worked for had his home there and he invited me home to meet his family and have dinner, but other than that don't know anything about White Plains! :)

Congratulations to your DD! That's great news! ((y))

do post separately and I'll try my darndest to make your date of arrival. Looking forward to seeing you again! :)

FainaAgain Jul 26th, 2007 08:14 AM

Hmmm... can we try to wing it? Or maybe everybody reserves one table and we can move them together? :)

paula1470 Jul 26th, 2007 08:41 AM

Faina-Thanks for all your help in trying to pick a restaurant. I don't care what kind of food, the price (as long as it's reasonable). But I think we should try to go somewhere where we can make a reservation. Also if Pacific Catch is as busy as ET says, then it might be really loud and noisy. I personally would prefer someplace a little quieter so we can visit without shouting. So there's my input.

FainaAgain Jul 26th, 2007 08:48 AM

Paula, I hardly ever eat out, and the only quiet place I know was rejected (Borobudur) so... are we back to Grand Cafe? It was not noisy as I remember the last GTG there.

paula1470 Jul 26th, 2007 08:54 AM

Well it doesn't have to be perfectly quiet but it would be nice not be shouting above everyone. The Grand Cafe looked good to me but it is a little more expensive. So I guess we will keep searching. How many people are we expecting so far?

travelbug44 Jul 26th, 2007 08:57 AM

I go past Pace Law School everyday on my way to work

FainaAgain Jul 26th, 2007 09:01 AM

6 on this thread... travelbug, are you coming? 7 what about withkids? 8

In my e-mail to the Catch I asked about 6 to 10 people

Shanghainese Jul 26th, 2007 11:51 AM

It will be a looong wait at the Catch, all the elegant people in SF will get there early! We should be there when it opens, not at noon.

I'll post back Fri after I check a few places on reservation.

artlover Jul 26th, 2007 12:28 PM

travelbug, can you help us? Besides White Plains, which would be the next best airport for her to fly into?

Shanghainese Jul 27th, 2007 09:31 AM

Back to restaurants, I've been to each of the following more than 3 times in the past 12 months, and I can make the reservations. And Faina, please help with the posting of the websites --

For mouthwateri american food, Americano in the Hotel Vitali on the Embarcadero 1/2 block from the Ferry Building with bay views.

For lovely pan-asian food, E & O Trading Co. on Sutter @ Stockton by Union Square.

For delicious and inexpensive chinese food, we can go back to Shanghai House on Balboa. Tea is "mien fei" = free, and everyone bring their OWN libation!

Shanghainese Jul 27th, 2007 09:33 AM

Oops, meant "mouthwatering", typing with 9 fingers, the missing one went into a bowl of chili!

I think there is a parking garage, or even more then one in that area? Anybody knows?

FainaAgain Jul 27th, 2007 10:48 AM

Can't find Shangai House website, only reviews, this is the address:

3641 Balboa St
San Francisco, CA 94121
(415) 831-9288

cobbie Jul 27th, 2007 12:50 PM

Faina: I'd consider coming from the Sacramento area if you would go somewhere with a free parking lot & not too noisy & we could have a reservation.

Shanghainese Jul 27th, 2007 04:03 PM

Shanghai House is so small, new & crowded, they won't need a website.

E & O Trading Co. is 1/2 block from the huge Stockton/Sutter garage, not free.

Americano is 1/2 to 1.5 blocks from the Rincon Center & Howard Garages, not free. Valet parking is approx. $16/3 hours.

Shanghai House is street parking, feed the meter every hour. Free parking is many blocks away and scarce in the residential areas, which is scarcer on weekends.

cobbie -- there are no commercial free parking in SF except for very few high-end expensive restaurants. Yes, I can get reservations at all 3 of the above, need plenty advance notice for parties over 6 persons. I'm going to E & O tonight.
