San Francisco GTG 12/2/06

I assume the date is set for Sat 12/2/06, is it lunch or dinner?

artlover: Where are u staying? Any fav places?

FainaAgain Nov 20th, 2006 12:16 PM

Topping. Possibly in.

Kal??????????? LOL

Kal Nov 20th, 2006 12:23 PM

Dinner would be a def "maybe".

No way we can make a lunch because Mrs Kal is usually swamped on Sat during the Christmas rush as is I-80.

But it could be an early B'day dinner for me?:-"
hint hint

FainaAgain Nov 20th, 2006 01:06 PM

Got your hint, pal. BevMo is opening on December 1, Van Ness @ Sutter. Should we stay close? :))

artlover Nov 20th, 2006 03:08 PM

Am staying at the Suites at Fisherman's Wharf. May or may not have a car depending if DF gets there by then. But S.F. is usually easy by foot or public transportation, so shouldn't be a problem getting to most places in the city, right?

One of my favorite places is L'Osteria del forno at 519 Columbus (www.losteriadelforno.com), but you know the city better than I do, so I'm open to trying new and different places.

FainaAgain Nov 21st, 2006 01:37 PM

Topping. Probably, people are out for the holiday, the forum is slow.

Shanghainese Nov 21st, 2006 04:12 PM

Lunch or dinner?

artlover Nov 21st, 2006 07:38 PM

I'd rather do dinner--I never drink before 5 (except in Europe :D). Or we could just do Happy Hour and those that want to linger on and do dinner could do so.

PamSF Nov 21st, 2006 07:48 PM

Alas..we have our wine group champagne Holiday party that evening. Enjoy y'all!

starrsville Nov 21st, 2006 07:55 PM

Any extra invites for that group Holiday champagne party? Sounds like a blast!

Shanghainese Nov 22nd, 2006 09:21 AM

Let's group ... after 5 it is, are we crashing the champagne party, or having our own? I don't do happy hours (never drink without food or I slide under the table) but can eat and drink at 5 or later. Will not be checking this site frequently till 11/30 but keeping 12/2 open. Prefer a location closer to Union Square or Market Street.

Wednesday Nov 22nd, 2006 11:15 AM

Oddly enough I will be at Post/Hyde that week...think I am spoken for but will keep checking this post just in case.

Kal Nov 22nd, 2006 11:20 AM

I'll be across town at Pre/Hyde...:-"

Shanghainese Nov 22nd, 2006 11:28 AM

Kal: Are you spoken for too?
Faina: Go get him!

FainaAgain Nov 22nd, 2006 11:30 AM

What Shanghainese said :)

For Wendnesday and myself the Union Square location is convenient!

FainaAgain Nov 22nd, 2006 12:08 PM

Shanghainese, I don't want to "get him". You know me, I don't enjoy easy winnings :)

Shanghainese Nov 26th, 2006 01:07 PM

Faina and I can gtg any time so it's now up to you other Fodorites.

Hope you're enjoying some easy winnings in Reno, Faina LOL.

artlover Nov 29th, 2006 07:35 PM

You need to give me the time and place and I'll be there with a smiling face :D

Shanghainese Nov 30th, 2006 01:09 PM

Thanks, artlover.

Cafe Metropol at 168 Sutter between Kearny & Montgomery across from the Crocker Galleria at 5:30 pm? Small cafe with casual Californian Mediterranean food and bar.

Faina: You on?

FainaAgain Nov 30th, 2006 01:20 PM

"Tortellini in Wild Mushroom Sauce, shredded Parmesan cheese and Herbs de Prove" "Red Wine Masi, Modello Rosso, Italy" - why do you even bother to ask :))

No dessert menu posted, how upsetting!

Anybody calling Kal?

Shanghainese Nov 30th, 2006 03:10 PM

Faina: chocolate mousse, pear almondine, pumpkin, pecan, raspberry pies ... no tiramisu this week, sorry.

artlover: we'll look for your smiling face!

Kal:

Shanghainese Nov 30th, 2006 03:13 PM

Fingers slipped with this Avon Skin So Soft Age-Defying Hand Cream.

Kal: Come across town and I'll ask them to put a candle on the dessert of your choice!

artlover Nov 30th, 2006 07:12 PM

WOW, with this menu my "Italian daughter" might agree to come along. (Might even convince DF too).

'Til then :D

Shanghainese Nov 30th, 2006 07:14 PM

O-O, Cafe Metropol is not open for dinner on Saturday, should I check for another continental food restaurant or we go chinese at R&G Lounge on Kearny? Food is fresh & delicious and there's a full bar.

PamSF Dec 1st, 2006 07:13 AM

Have a wonderful time! We'll be at our Wine Group Holiday Soiree and I promise to have a glass of champagne for each of you:)

FainaAgain Dec 1st, 2006 07:31 AM

Where is Artlover coming from? Does she need to be close to a BART station? To a hotel?

Kearney on a Sat night? In the dark? To wait for a bus? Sorry, doesn't sound good to me.

Shanghainese Dec 1st, 2006 07:47 AM

artlover is staying at the Suites at Fisherman's Wharf.

If Belden Place is to spooky for you, Faina, I will focus my search near BART stations and Union Square.

FainaAgain Dec 1st, 2006 08:02 AM

Umm... Rainforest Cafe? :))

ilovetotravel29 Dec 1st, 2006 08:12 AM

Kearny isnt that dangerous at night. But I guess it is all a matter of perspective.

Shanghainese Dec 1st, 2006 09:21 AM

Faina: you can come to my back yard with Clif bars and pretend you are in a rainforest.

I have 4 meetings today, come on, is Belden Place ok for you to get to? If not, I know you like Union Square if there's a free concert that afternoon.

FainaAgain Dec 1st, 2006 09:25 AM

Union square works without any concerts ;)

I29, it's not just Kearney, it's the 2 buses I'd have to take to and from.

FainaAgain Dec 1st, 2006 09:30 AM

Bad news. The Kals won't make it.

artlover Dec 1st, 2006 10:11 AM

OK, here's the story. I haven't packed yet and have to leave for the airport in one hour, so may not be able to check in again from home. Don't know if I have Internet where we're staying, if so, no problem checking tomorrow. If not, well...will have to do this another time. So, if you post the time and place, I'll be there.:D

Shanghainese Dec 1st, 2006 11:27 AM

I can't find anything around Union Square that will take reservations for 3 at 5:30 pm.

Faina: Belden Place, yes or no, please? Need to know asap.

FainaAgain Dec 1st, 2006 11:42 AM

Ummm... the location is OK, but which place? I ate only one lunch at Tiramisu, that was awful!

And how do we let Artlover know, she may've left already.

LoveItaly Dec 1st, 2006 12:08 PM

Faina, since you have the information where artlover is staying you can call the hotel, if she isn't in her room you can leave a message. Phones, they were invented before computers, lol.
Hope you all get this worked out.

Shanghainese Dec 1st, 2006 12:08 PM

I like Cafe Bastille and Plouf, both french.

At this point, shall we say GTG another time?

FainaAgain Dec 1st, 2006 12:22 PM

LoveItaly, and who do I ask for? Artlover? Do you think they will be amused?

I wonder if anybody ever called asking to talk to Faina Again :))

Shanghainese, yes, maybe better another time?

LoveItaly Dec 1st, 2006 12:55 PM

Hi Faina, I assumed you know artlovers name as I have never met with someone without knowing their name.

BTW, I love Plouf's but since you don't eat mussels that would probably not be a good restaurant for you.

FainaAgain Dec 1st, 2006 01:03 PM

I never knew a menu posted on a website can be so deceptive and misleading!

From Plouf's website, they have such a nice selection of all kinds of dishes, including my favorite salmon.

What I didn't know - they put mussles in every dish??????????

Thank you, Love Italy, for warning me, I will never ever set my foot there!
