San Diego to Tijuana Pharmacy

Recommendations for how to get from San Diego to a good pharmacy in Tijuana easily?

Have you identified the "good pharmacy"? Are the drugs you would be buying legal to bring into the U.S.?

Considering the current situation at the border, I think this would not be a simple back-and-forth excursion. Pedestrian crossings are faster, but then you'd have to taxi on the Mexico side. If you drive, make sure you have the required insurance. You can check wait times in real time on the CBP website.

I have no idea about TJ, but at Nogales there are bunch of pharmacies right across the border, 1min walk that offer labeled / boxed / blister pack prescriptions at or below Mexico list prices. We've done this for Rx that our US insurance would not cover, and cost 10X in the US out of pocket. We had gotten a pharmacy reco from a local US nurse who does this frequently and advises patients.

Crossing back into the US we declared what we'd bought and were waived right through. Border guard was appreciative that we had as ID more than a tattered birth certificate, let alone an actual, valid US passport.

Pharmacy = Legal

Thanks! The price savings for Enbrel will be outrageous. I'm planning for my retirement when I don't have my current insurance. I will travel to San Diego this summer for a conference and thought I'd do a dry run.

I will be using public transportation in the US and probably a taxi in Mexico.

I have family and friends who swear by Algadones (right at AZ/CA border). A couple of these friends in particular grew up in Arizona, and their dentist was in Algadones. My cousin and her husband would winter over in Yuma and get all their dental and meds in Algadones. We ourselves have shopped at those pharmacies and saved quite a bit of money. It's a bit far for a quick day trip from San Diego, although that is usually where we fly into when making one of those trips. There is a nice casino hotel right on the U.S. side where you might stay, and Yuma itself is only about 20 minutes away.

There is Uber in Mexico. I have friends who have used it perfectly safely. Don't know about pharmacies in TJ though.

Have you checked this site out?

maitaitom I currently use their financial support. However, they only offer this is you have private insurance. Once I start Medicare I won't be eligible.

Have you determined what the drug will cost you when you are on Medicare and have Part D coverage? maitaitom's link mentions that they will help you figure out your out-of-pocket expense. You need to have identified which Part D policy you'll be getting.

Look into a Medicare Advantage plan, I have one and it costs me nothing, no premiums, free visit to PCP and specialists, pretty good coverage for prescription drugs, especially if you can get Enbrel in a generic. I looked into a Medicare supplement plan and they cost a ton of money.

There is no generic for Enbrel, and it is a very expensive drug.

It would be helpful to have someone to walk through the Part D policy options and calculate the total cost before, during and after reaching the "donut hole"

Danna, I am looking for Enbrel in Mexico. Have you found it and where?

Thank you,
Adrian
