Roosevelt Hotel
Has anyone ever stayed at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York City, near Grand Central Station? What is it like and is the location good? Any good restaurants close by?
|
The hotel is fine. What rate have you been quoted?
The area is very convenient. Any good restaurants close by? You're talking about New York, so the answer is, "Of course!" |
Haven't stayed there in a few years. The last time I did it was OK, nothing great, and the rooms were defintiely in need of an update. There are worse places, better ones, too. I'd shop rates.

In response to Seamus, the hotel underwent a major renovation a few years ago.

I stayed at the Roosevelt a little over a year ago. It was a real let down for me after having just stayed at the New York Hilton. The area around there wasn't as nice, and although the lobby is beautiful, our room(and we tried more than one) was just okay. The bathroom seemed very old and the windows were not clean. It was just dreary I guess-not bad, but I'd shop around a bit.

have stayed at the Roosevelt and above posters are accurate. It's satisfactory and practical. We like the location-right by Grand Central. Lately, we have stayed at a Super 8, which is even more basic that the Roosevelt, but you cant beat the price or location. for us, when we go to NYC, we basically just sleep at our hotel and are on the go from early in the morning til late at night so location and basic cleanliness rule, along with price (we'd rather spend our money doing things than on the hotel).

The Roosevelt is a large, older traditional hotel in a great location - unless you want to be right in the middle of Times Square. Don;t expect luxury - people generally take it for the price and the location - close to
Grand Central and all transport - great for museums and better shopping. It's fine - but not exciting, trendy or luxurious. If you are not getting a great rate (for NYC at that exact time) I would look further. |
I did not care it and feel that there are nuch better choices in Manhattan for the price.
I do not have a problem with "old" but did not the hotel to be particularly well maintained or it needs updating. |
I stayed at the Roosevelt in Dec. '03. Yes, it is an older hotel, but the renovations make it quite charming. You can't beat the location and the service was very good. I would definitely stay there again.
