Rhinebeck, NY
We are having lunch with friends at Beekman Arms on a Friday, and dinner at the Escoffier Room at CIA. Does anyone have any suggestions for spending an afternoon in Rhinebeck or environs? Thank you!

would that be mid, upper-mid, mid-up, or just plain upstate ny, do you suppose.

Visit some of the historic houses nearby--
Wilderstein, Vanderbilt Mansion, Mills mansion, Montgomery Place

Go fruit picking at Greigs's farm in Red Hook,

Antiquing, check out what's going on at the Rhinebeck Fairgrounds (depends on when you're going)

View an oldtime airshow at the Rhinebeck Aerodrome.

Anything sound interesting?

Hi,I have topped an UPSTATE TRIP REPORT for you.All about Rhinebeck and the Beekman Arms.
Have a good time, it is lovely UP there:)
|
Try an afternoon in Woodstock. It isn't much more than 1/2 hour away and offers some great art galleries and shopping.
|
Thanks to all for the fine suggestions.

Nice shopping right around the Beekman, and there is a wonderful little spa in an old victorian home, a block or two away from the Beekman, called "Haven." Have fun!

And Franklin Roosevelt's house is in Hyde Park, not too far. Eleanor's estate is near CIA. You can tour both.

Wilderstein is a small mansion, fun to tour with a lovely view of the Hudson. You can walk down the paths close to the river too.

The Vanderbilt estate is nice to visit and a short drive too. They have a terraced Italian garden that's being restored.

Rhinebeck itself has lots of little shops to browse in.

So plenty to do in an afternoon. Have fun.
