kswl - LOL! Your life stories crack me up!

kswl Aug 16th, 2006 08:26 AM

Thank you, traveladdict. If only they weren't true!

Maggi Aug 16th, 2006 08:51 AM

To travel addict: I make egg in a hole (we call it egg in a frame) for the kids all the time and my solution is to make it in a large nonstick frying pan and cover it with a large lid on low heat. I monitor it carefully so as not to make the york hard, but the white is usually cooked perfectly.

1 cup contentment

1 cup each confidence and encouragement

1 large or several small hobbies

Recipe for having happy fodorite friends:

When ordering beer for oneself, look around the table and see who else maybe empty that is furiously trying to flag down the same waitress you are ordering from.

:-D

lol, Ronda..
I will go to Fred Meyers for my ordinary grocery items..including grits.
This months Country Living magazine has all sorts of lovely Bread Recipes Starting with Toad in the Hole! and then there is the Chocolate Hazelnut Panini, anyone want the recipe :D

Budman Aug 16th, 2006 10:38 AM

You're going to continue to torture me? ((?)) Here's your beer. ((b)) ((b)) ((b)) ((b)) :-) ((b))

JAGIRL Aug 16th, 2006 10:46 AM

Scarlet,
I would ((L)) to have that Chocolate Hazelnut Panini recipe :)

Seamus Aug 16th, 2006 10:49 AM

Budman - thank you for providing the scientific rationale for the intuitively recognizable truth that people who do not drink beer are FOS. Start looking for cheap fares to Stockholm, for this is surely Nobel worthy work.

Scarlett Aug 16th, 2006 10:57 AM

Does that fancy schmancy Lambic Peach Beer count, or am I FOS too :(

travel_addict Aug 16th, 2006 11:00 AM

Thanks Scarlett & Maggi for the egg in the hole tips - I tried cutting the hole with a glass and using a lid while frying it, and it worked! No runny white stuff! :D

Now, Scarlett, if you'll just share that chocolate hazelnut panini recipe, maybe I could try my hand at that too!

GoTravel Aug 16th, 2006 11:00 AM

As long as it takes Budman, as long as it takes........

What is FOS?

Budman Aug 16th, 2006 11:05 AM

Seamus, :D :D :D :D ((b))

Scarlett Aug 16th, 2006 11:09 AM

Chocolate Hazelnut Panini
1 ciabatta loaf
1/2 cup hazelnut butter
2 T honey
1/4 tsp salt
1/16 tsp ground cloves
1 4 oz bar bittersweet chocolate
2 T melted butter
TIMESAVER:
Use Nutella for the nut butter/honey/chocolate

Cut the ciabatta into 5 x 3 inch rectangles and cut horizontally.

Stir the hazelnut buuter, honey, salt and cloves together and spead about 1 T over each of 4 of the bread rectangles.
Layer with the chocolate and top with remaining bread.
Brush with butter and grill in a press until the chocolate melts.
Cut into small triangles and sprinkle each with sea salt to serve.
----------------------------------------

I got this from a magazine that has pages of bread recipes..the firs one was Egg in a Hole. They used Brioche,,

FOS- Full of S......

also----you can cook your egg in toast on the stove and stick it under the broiler for a minute to 'set' the egg.

Jolie Aug 16th, 2006 11:24 AM

Haggis Recipe:

Sheep's pluck (heart, lung, liver)
Sheep's paunch (stomach)
2 Tbs salt
1 Tbs white pepper
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
1 pound mutten suet
1 large onion, chopped
6 oz. oatmeal, toasted
1 pint beef stock

Clean paunch well and turn inside out. Boil the pluck until tender. (Hang the lung's opening over the edge of the pot to allow drainage of impurities into another pot).

Grate the liver and chop rest of meat into fine pieces. Mix the meats with the spices, onions, suet, and oatmeal. Mix in the stock and then stuff into the paunch. Leave extra room to allow for expansion of oatmeal.

Boil for three hours.

Enjoy!

Scarlett Aug 16th, 2006 11:27 AM

Jolie left out the part where you have to drink copious amounts of Scotch or the whiskey of your choice while cooking, in order to be able to eat the dish :D

Fodorite018 Aug 16th, 2006 11:48 AM

Scarlett--While haggis isn't bad, it is best to convince yourself you are eating something else at the time. So the whisky is a great idea!

Jolie Aug 16th, 2006 11:55 AM

How do I edit my post? I agree, a bottle of whiskey should be a required ingredient - to be drunk while consuming the haggis!
