Isn't April designated Random Shooting Month in LA?

placeu2 Apr 27th, 2005 12:11 PM

Make sure and get the extra large bowl of chili while you are in CA.. :&

Ok,that's all for me folks.

rjw_lgb_ca Apr 27th, 2005 12:15 PM

weimer: I thought it was May! And I didn't get any of my "Happy Shootin' at Strangers!" cards out. Damn.

And I feel we're way behind the curve, since Florida now has made it a year-round observance....

>>Make sure and get the extra large bowl of chili while you are in CA<<

No thanks, placeu2, I don't care for finger food.

Patrick Apr 27th, 2005 01:54 PM

Hey, P_M, aren't you aware that woman was arrested for putting the finger in there herself?

To Lear22, stay away from Robert Blake and OJ Simpson and you should be fine.

FainaAgain Apr 27th, 2005 02:18 PM

A woman gave a finger and got arrested for that? They really have tough laws there in LA!

Mary2Go Apr 27th, 2005 02:31 PM

Lear,

I think that watching the news puts a twist on stories that make it appear that isolated random events are widespread. I regularly drive the same part of the 55 Fwy where one of the shootings occured and I only give it a passing thought. You have a greater chance of getting hurt in a traffic accident in the way to the grocery store in your hometown. Don't be put off by scary stories, save your angst for a California sig-alert!

L.A. freeways are very dangerous. Much more so than the skies if you're on the road five times a day like most Angelenos. But you're a zillion times more likely to get injured in a traffic accident than in a shooting.

Lear22 Apr 27th, 2005 04:51 PM

Thanks for all of the insight. I guess nobody wants to discuss what actually happened out there.

I realize to you I should already know the details, but seriously I couldn't find anything specific online about the news clip I had heard.

It isn't going to stop me from travelling there, just wanted to know what the situation was.

Regardless, I'm sorry I brought up the question in the first place. I've learned my lesson...

And we've all learned that apparently Travdis now has a family too... Have fun at the wedding.

P_M Apr 27th, 2005 05:48 PM

Patrick, of course I'm aware the finger in the chili was a hoax. My remark was only in fun. ((y))

Lear, from the Times:
"Police from multiple agencies say the shootings appear to be unconnected, without a clear motive. Witnesses are sparse. Clues are limited."

If you are looking for info on the shootings, this is from yesterday's Times:
